Optimization of an in-house PCR method for the detection of HLA-B*27 alleles

open access: yesBiomedical Reports, 2018
The association of spondyloarthropathies with different alleles of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) B*27 is well established. Different subtypes of HLA-B*27 may be linked with different ethnic groups, distinct clinical manifestations, specific age of onset and different prognoses.

Increased Conformational Flexibility of HLA–B*27 Subtypes Associated With Ankylosing Spondylitis [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis & Rheumatology, 2016
ObjectiveDissimilarities in antigen processing and presentation are known to contribute to the differential association of HLA–B*27 subtypes with the inflammatory rheumatic disease ankylosing spondylitis (AS). In support of this notion, previous x‐ray crystallographic data showed that peptides can be displayed by almost identical HLA–B*27 molecules in ...

A Common Minimal Motif for the Ligands of HLA-B*27 Class I Molecules

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
CD8(+) T cells identify and kill infected cells through the specific recognition of short viral antigens bound to human major histocompatibility complex (HLA) class I molecules. The colossal number of polymorphisms in HLA molecules makes it essential to characterize the antigen-presenting properties common to large HLA families or supertypes.

A Case of Undifferentiated Spondyloarthropathy- HLA B 27 Positive

open access: yesInternational Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology (IJISRT)
Undifferentiated arthritis / Undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy are terms used to describe inflammatory arthritis which has not differentiated into a specific rheumatic disease . UA can either describe a patient of early onset rheumatic disease who might progress to specific rheumatic disorder or describe patients who fail to differentiate into ...

Distribution of HLA-B*27 Subtypes in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis in Local Population

open access: yesJournal of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, 2019
To compare the distribution of HLA-B*27 subtypes in healthy controls and in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients of different ethnic groups from Pakistan.Descriptive study.Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from April 2016 to October 2017.Forty-nine HLA-B*27 positive, unrelated AS patients and 18 HLA-B*27 positive healthy BMT ...

The enigmatic role of HLA-B*27 in spondyloarthritis pathogenesis

Seminars in Immunopathology, 2021
Establishing a clear role for HLA-B*27 in the pathogenesis of spondyloarthritis continues to be challenging. Aberrant properties of the heavy chain as well as a potential role presenting arthritogenic peptides continue to be pursued as plausible mechanisms. Recent studies implicate HLA-B*27 in aberrant bone formation.

The role of HLA-B*27 in spondyloarthritis

Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology, 2017
The mechanism by which HLA-B*27 predisposes to spondyloarthritis remains unresolved. Arthritogenic peptides have not been defined in humans and are not involved in experimental models of spondyloarthritis. Aberrant properties of HLA-B*27 can activate the IL-23/IL-17 axis in HLA-B*27 transgenic rats and humans.
