HLA-B*27 in human health and disease
HLA-B*27 is one of the most studied HLA allele due to its association with diseases from the spondyloarthritis group, mainly ankylosing spondylitis. This association is still the strongest association described in the literature between an HLA gene and a disease.

FRI0634 Cost savings of using hla-b*27 tag snp genotyping to determine hla-b*27 status in a canadian population [PDF]
Background: HLA-B*27 is a useful genetic marker for screening axSpA [1,2] to determine who can benefit from rheumatologic evaluation in a primary care setting [3]. Currently, entire HLA-B locus tests are the gold standard for determining HLA-B*27 status but they are expensive. With a sensitivity of 97.6%, the cheaper HLA-B*27 tag-SNP assay could offer

A Homogeneous HLA‐B*27 Genotyping Assay Using Dried Reagent Mixtures
The presence of HLA‐B*27 allele with patients suspected with ankylosing spondylitis can be used in the diagnostic process. We have developed an assay for typing for the HLA‐B*27 in whole blood dried on sample collection cards using pre‐dried reagent wells and homogeneous time‐resolved fluorescence based PCR approach.

HLA‐B27 Determination by Polymerase Chain Reaction
A method for determining the presence or absence of HLA‐827 by selective amplification of a region in the third exon of the HLA‐B27 gene common to B*270 I to B*2705 inclusive, was evaluated. This polymerase chain reaction/sequence specific primer (PCR‐SSP) method gave perfect correlation with serological typing on 40 individuals of previously ...

The Art of Deception: Multiple Myeloma Imitating Spondyloarthritis—A Case Report
ABSTRACT Rheumatic symptoms can be associated with malignancies. Although sacroiliitis is not a classic paraneoplastic syndrome, malignant infiltration of sacroiliac joints by multiple myeloma can mimic inflammatory rheumatologic disease. Multiple myeloma (MM), a plasma cell malignancy often presenting with bone pain, can involve axial skeletal ...

Exhaustion‐Resistant CD8 + T Cells in Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Proposed Three‐Axis Model
Exhaustion‐resistant CD8+ T cells may sustain ankylosing spondylitis. A three‐axis model—intermittent T‐cell receptor engagement, IL‐15/CD28 co‐stimulation and maintained metabolic fitness—explains how PD‐1^high CD8+ T cells retain effector function and accumulate from gut to entheses, promoting inflammation and aberrant bone remodelling.

Seasonal Variation in HLA‐B27 Associated Uveitis
ABSTRACT Background To examine if there was a monthly variation in HLA‐B27‐associated uveitis. Methods Retrospective review of all individuals presenting to a single centre with HLA‐B27‐associated uveitis from 2009 to 2020. Results 577 participants with HLA‐B27‐associated uveitis were included. The median age at presentation was 40.4 years (IQR 31.1–51.

Converting an HLA‐B27 flow assay from the BD FACSCanto to the BD FACSLyric
Abstract HLA‐B27 is a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I antigen which exhibits strong association (90%) with ankylosing spondylitis. HLA‐B27 detection in patients by flow cytometry is a widely used clinical test, performed on many different flow cytometer models.

Human Leukocyte Antigen - HLA B*27: Unraveling the Link to Pathogenesis
The association of spondyloarthritis (SpA) with human leukocyte antigen-B*27 (HLA-B*27) is one of the strongest known for a non-monogenic disease. How HLA-B*27 determines the aetiopathogenesis of SpA and disposes toward this group of disease has perplexed rheumatologists for decades.
