A Worm‐Inspired Origami Robot with Multimodal Locomotion for Adaptive Mobility in Complex Pipeline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An origami worm‐inspired robot achieves multimodal locomotion in confined pipelines through mechatronic integration that embeds actuation, control, and communication within each origami module. Large, reversible configuration and dimensional changes enable 25 gaits synthesized by a unified framework across peristaltic, inchworm, and wheel‐rolling modes

Simulation of heat transport in textiles inspired by polar bear fur

open access: yesAIP Advances
The polar bear and several other Arctic mammals use fur composed of hollow-core fibers to survive in extremely cold environments. Here, we use finite element analysis to elucidate the role that the hollow core plays in regulating thermal transport ...

Up to 64QAM (30 Gbit/s) directly-modulated and directly detected OFDM at 2µm wavelength

open access: yes
We report a novel OFDM-transmitter operating in the emerging 2µm waveband. Sub-FEC limit transmission of a 32QAM signal over 500m of both solid and hollow-core fiber was achieved and the generation of 30Gbits 64QAM ...

High sensitive methane sensor based on a photonic bandgap fiber

open access: yes
Monitoring methane (CH) concentration is essential in many industrial and environmental applications. Hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers (HC-PBF) have emerged as a promising technology in the field of gas sensing.

Inhibited coupling hollow-core photonic crystal fiber

open access: yes, 2014
We review the recent progress on the enhanced inhibited coupling in kagome hollow-core photonic crystal fiber by introducing negative curvature in the fiber-core shape.

Microblasting Wound Dressings Mechanically Disrupt Polymicrobial Biofilms to Enhance Healing in Treatment‐Resistant Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Treatment‐resistant wounds caused by polymicrobial biofilms are refractory to conventional therapies due to the dense extracellular matrices. We developed μBLAST, a microblasting wound dressing that combines MnO2‐doped biosilica and a H2O2‐releasing mesh to generate localized oxygen microbubbles that mechanically disrupt biofilms.
