Hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber polarizer
Optics Letters, 2008Broadband, compact in-fiber polarizers were fabricated using a pulsed CO(2) laser to modify the air holes along one side of the hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers. The polarizers have lengths from 3 to 6 mm and exhibit a polarization extinction ratio of better than 20 dB over a wavelength range larger than 100 nm at approximately 1,550 nm.

Ultraviolet guiding hollow-core photonic crystal fiber
Optics Letters, 2009We present what we believe to be the first experimental demonstration of low-loss guiding of UV radiation in hollow-core photonic crystal fiber. The "kagomé" latticed fiber was designed to guide 0.355 microm wavelength radiation with approximately 2 dB/m loss. Moreover, an excellent agreement between modeling and experimental results was obtained. From

The first optical-frequency hollow waveguides were simple parallel-plate guides. The early pioneering work in this field was done by Garmire et al. Her group made a rectangular waveguide using aluminum strips separated by about 0.5 mm with bronze shim stock. This structure is shown in Fig. 3.2. Even when the aluminum was not well polished, these guides

Non-Destructive Characterization of Hollow Core Fiber
Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2024We summarize our recent work developing a technique for accurate and non-destructive measurement of the microstructure geometry of nested and double nested antiresonant fibers. We present results showing microstructure variation along a 2.2 km fiber.
