Holographic elements and holographic techniques used in photonics
SPIE Proceedings, 2013Since the invention of holography in 1948, most of the attention has been focused on holographic 3 dimensional images and displays. This new 3D technology generated a lot of attention in the 70's through the 90's. The work that was being done for manipulating light other than 3D imaging and displays was not as well known.

Optically switched volume holographic elements
Optics Letters, 1995We optically switched the diffraction efficiency of volume holographic elements recorded in DMP-128 photopolymer by use of a thermal nonlinearity of the liquid crystal 5CB. The liquid crystal was incorporated into the volume grating. The diffraction efficiency of small areas of the grating was switched with a control beam power of several milliwatts ...

Design for polarizing holographic optical elements
Applied Optics, 1995We present results of the application of a three-dimensional rigorous-vector coupled-wave theory to the design of polarizing holographic optical elements. Two different cases have been selected giving rise to two types of element, one of which is completely original. Experimental realizations were performed.

Planar optical elements combine holographic elements with a substrate mode planar structure where the light is trapped inside the structure by total internal reflections. As a result, usual free space propagation can be replaced by guided propagation in the planar structures on which holographic elements are recorded on either side.

Wavelength performance of holographic optical elements
Applied Optics, 1985A comprehensive treatment is presented for the diffraction efficiencies of transmission holographic elements and cascade lenses when subject to broad spectral and field angle detunings. Experimental measurements are made in support of our theory on holographic optical elements fabricated in bleached silver-halide emulsions and in dichromated gelatin ...

Volume holographic phase-retardation elements
Optics Letters, 1995The form birefringence of subwavelength period gratings can be applied to realize phase-retardation elements. Previous researchers used high-frequency surface relief structures or sinusoidal gratings formed in photoresist to fabricate phase-retardation elements.

Testing of holographic optical elements for holographic gun-sight
Optics and Lasers in Engineering, 2008Conventional methods of measuring the various parameters of holographic optical elements are tedious for mass production. A novel approach is described for the holographic elements used in the holographic sight, in which the parameters are defined and measured as per their intended final application.

Holographic optical element for digital lensless holographic microscopy's illumination
Digital Holography and 3-D Imaging 2022, 2022We present the development of a holographic optical element that creates a micrometrical point source producing the divergent spherical illumination needed for Digital Lensless Holographic Microscopy. Our proposal has been validated with biological samples.

The possibility of storing lightwaves on holographic material can not only be used for recording and reconstructing of three-dimensional objects, but also to deflect lightwaves in an unconventionally manner and for divergent an focusing properties. This kind of specific holograms, which hold imaging properties are called Holographic Optical Elements ...
