Organization of human homeobox genes
Human Reproduction, 1988The chromosomal localization of 17 human homeoboxes and the predicted primary sequence of the encoded homeodomains is reported. These homeoboxes are clustered in four complex HOX loci on chromosomes 2, 7, 12 and 17. Although the identification of human homeoboxes has not been completed, existing data permit preliminary conclusions on the origin and ...

Homeobox genes and heart development
Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine, 1995Genes encoding transcription factors are fundamental to developmental processes because their DNA-binding proteins can control expression of a multitude of genes. Therefore, activation of a single transcription factor gene can act as a genetic switch that controls the developmental destinies of groups of cells.

MEIS homeobox genes in neuroblastoma
Cancer Letters, 2005The common pediatric tumor neuroblastoma originates from primitive neural crest-derived precursor cells of the peripheral nervous system. Neuroblastoma especially affects very young children, and can already be present at birth. Its early onset and cellular origin predict the involvement of developmental control genes in neuroblastoma etiology.

Homeobox HOXA10 Gene Analysis in Cryptorchidism
Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2004In male mice, targeted disruption of the homeobox gene hoxa10 causes cryptorchidism and infertility. Genetic alterations in exon 1 of HOXA10 have been found in a high number of boys with cryptorchidism. To evaluate whether mutations of HOXA10 can be a common cause of cryptorchidism.Genomic DNA was extracted from 18 patients with cryptorchidism (age 7-44
