Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

High fidelity of RecA-catalyzed recombination: a watchdog of genetic diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Homologous recombination plays a key role in generating genetic diversity, while maintaining protein functionality. The mechanisms by which RecA enables a single-stranded segment of DNA to recognize a homologous tract within a whole genome are poorly ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Efficacy of Double versus Single Homologous Intrauterine Insemination in Mild Male Factor Infertility and Pregnancy Outcome: A Randomised Controlled Trial [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a cost-effective, minimally invasive, and widely accepted Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedure used to treat infertility.

ATR inhibition disrupts rewired homologous recombination and fork protection pathways in PARP inhibitor-resistant BRCA-deficient cancer cells

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2017
Yazinski et al. show that the functions of BRCA1 in homologous recombination and replication fork protection are sequentially bypassed during the acquisition of PARP inhibitor (PARPi) resistance.

Homologous Pairing between Long DNA Double Helices

open access: yes, 2016
Molecular recognition between two double stranded (ds) DNA with homologous sequences may not seem compatible with the B-DNA structure because the sequence information is hidden when it is used for joining the two strands.

Homological Units

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices, 2016
We define and study the invariance properties of homological units. Some applications are given to the derived invariance of Hodge numbers. In particular, we prove that if X and Y are derived equivalent smooth projective varieties of dimension 4 having the same Picard number, then they have the same Hodge numbers.

Skein Homology

open access: yesCanadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1998
AbstractA new class of homology groups associated to a 3-manifold is defined. The theories measure the syzygies between skein relations in a skein module. We investigate some of the properties of the homology theory associated to the Kauffman bracket.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...
