Quorum Quenching in a Novel Acinetobacter sp. XN-10 Bacterial Strain against Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell density-dependent mechanism that regulates the expression of specific genes in microbial cells. Quorum quenching (QQ) is a promising strategy for attenuating pathogenicity by interfering with the QS system of pathogens.

X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1s) is a critical determinant of Pseudomonas aeruginosa homoserine lactone-mediated apoptosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2013
Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections are associated with high mortality rates and occur in diverse conditions including pneumonias, cystic fibrosis and neutropenia.

Exploration of the Quorum-Quenching Mechanism in Pseudomonas nitroreducens W-7 and Its Potential to Attenuate the Virulence of Dickeya zeae EC1

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Quorum quenching (QQ) is a novel, promising strategy that opens up a new perspective for controlling quorum-sensing (QS)-mediated bacterial pathogens.

Quorum Sensing Activity of Mesorhizobium sp. F7 Isolated from Potable Water

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
We isolated a bacterial isolate (F7) from potable water. The strain was identified as Mesorhizobium sp. by 16S rDNA gene phylogenetic analysis and screened for N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) production by an AHL biosensor. The AHL profile of the isolate

Quorum Sensing Activity of Enterobacter asburiae Isolated from Lettuce Leaves

open access: yesSensors, 2013
Bacterial communication or quorum sensing (QS) is achieved via sensing of QS signaling molecules consisting of oligopeptides in Gram-positive bacteria and N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHL) in most Gram-negative bacteria.

Joining the bacterial conversation: increasing the cultivation efficiency of soil bacteria with acyl-homoserine lactones and cAMP

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Bacteria need to be isolated in pure culture to gain access to the wide array of interesting functions they conceal. This is challenging because they do not live in isolation but instead in communities where they actively communicate and interact with ...

Homoserine and quorum‐sensing acyl homoserine lactones as alternative sources of threonine: a potential role for homoserine kinase in insect‐stage Trypanosoma brucei

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2014
SummaryDe novo synthesis of threonine from aspartate occurs via the β‐aspartyl phosphate pathway in plants, bacteria and fungi. However, the Trypanosoma brucei genome encodes only the last two steps in this pathway: homoserine kinase (HSK) and threonine synthase.

The Role of Transamination in the Synthesis of Homoserine in Peas [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1986
Incubation of intact pea plants (Pisum sativum), or detached shoots, in continuous light caused a substantial increase (up to 4-fold in 2 days) in levels of homoserine. Amino acids supplied to leaves in the transpiration stream enhanced the accumulation, with glutamate, aspartate, and asparagine causing similar enhancement.

The crystal structure of homoserine dehydrogenase complexed withl-homoserine and NADPH in a closed form

open access: yesThe Journal of Biochemistry, 2018
Homoserine dehydrogenase from Thermus thermophilus (TtHSD) is a key enzyme in the aspartate pathway that catalyses the reversible conversion of l-aspartate-β-semialdehyde to l-homoserine (l-Hse) with NAD(P)H. We determined the crystal structures of unliganded TtHSD, TtHSD complexed with l-Hse and NADPH, and Lys99Ala and Lys195Ala mutant TtHSDs, which ...

Tandem Mass Spectrometry Detection of Quorum Sensing Activity in Multidrug Resistant Clinical Isolate Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
Many Proteobacteria communicate via production followed by response of quorum sensing molecules, namely, N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs). These molecules consist of a lactone moiety with N-acyl side chain with various chain lengths and degrees of ...
