Bridging the Late Antique Gap in Northwest Arabia: New Archaeological Evidence on the Occupation of Wādī al‐Qurā (al‐ʿUlā [AlUla], Saudi Arabia) Between the Third and Seventh Centuries CE

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.

Assessment of powdery mildew resistance in wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum L.) populations in the aegean region of Turkey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In a study of resistance to powdery mildew, we investigated three populations of Hordeum spontaneum using leaf segment test. For comparison of the reactions, we used 44 barley lines as differentials representing most of the resistance used in barley ...

Stepwise signal transduction cascades under salt stress in leaves of wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum)

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2020
The present study aims at the use of transcriptomic data of wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum) under salt stress in detecting regulated metabolites and crosstalking signal transduction pathways that help plants withstand harsh conditions.

Effects of weed management strategies on weed density and biomass and saffron (Crocus sativus) yield [PDF]

open access: yesZirā̒at va Fanāvarī-i Za̒farān, 2014
In order to study and compare chemical and non-chemical methods of weed management in saffron (Crocus sativus) fields, two field experiments were carried out in a randomized completely block design with three replications at Research Field Station of ...

Leaf micromorphology and genetic diversity analysis of Iranian Hordeum species using ISSR and SCoT markers

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 9, September 2026.
The genus Hordeum (Poaceae), of the tribe Triticeae, comprises approximately 32 species with substantial potential for barley improvement. Hordeum vulgare is an economically important cereal widely cultivated across diverse environments, from the Arctic to desert and humid regions.

Complete Chloroplast Genome of Indonesian Sugarcane (Saccharum ‘Bululawang’): Comparative, Structural, and Evolutionary Analysis of Photosystem I‐Encoding Genes

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Sugarcane is one of the most important crops, providing the majority of global sugar production and serving as a major feedstock for bioenergy. Increasing demands for sustainable sugar production under climate and productivity constraint have intensified the need for molecular‐level characterization of elite cultivars.

Outcrossing rates and heterozygosity in natural populations of Hordeum spontaneum Koch in Israel [PDF]

open access: yesHeredity, 1978
The extent of cross-pollination was estimated quantitatively in 26 populations of wild barley (H. spontaneum) in Israel, using allozyme variation at 22 polymorphic loci. Individual population estimates varied from 0 to 9·6 per cent outcrossing. The overall average was 1·6 per cent, with a 95 per cent confidence range of 0·8-2·7 per cent.

Genomic and evolutionary analysis reveals dynamic variations of MKK3 gene, a key regulator for seed dormancy in barley

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is an important crop in the world, and its seed dormancy is primarily controlled by a mitogen‐activated protein kinase kinase 3 (MKK3) gene. Although kinase activity of MKK3 and its roles in barley post‐domestication have been widely studied, the pre‐domestication evolution of MKK3 and the spread of nondormant ...

Free proline accumulation in leaves of cultivated plant species under water deficit conditions

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2013
The effect of water deficit caused by soil drought on the content of free proline as well as the degree of cell membrane damages in the leaves of three cultivated plant species having different farm usefulness and water requirements have been studied ...
