Seed dormancy explains plant response to mass mortality events

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Mass mortality events (MMEs) are large‐scale, rapid die‐offs resulting in extreme inputs of carrion biomass. Recent work demonstrates the effects of increasing carrion biomass on plant communities modulated by vertebrate scavengers and herbivores.

Bridging the Late Antique Gap in Northwest Arabia: New Archaeological Evidence on the Occupation of Wādī al‐Qurā (al‐ʿUlā [AlUla], Saudi Arabia) Between the Third and Seventh Centuries CE

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.

Resistance of barley landraces and wild barley populations to powdery mildew in Jordan

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2008
Eleven barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) landraces and 12 wild barley (H. spontaneum) populations, collected from diverse eco-geographical regions of Jordan, were screened for resistance to powdery mildew. The average powdery mildew disease score (based on a 0

Annual flower strips under the ‘Sweden Blossom’ initiative – how do they perform for pollinators, natural enemies and herbivores?

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Pollinator‐targeted annual flower strips increase abundances of pollinators but also natural enemies and herbivores. Natural enemies and herbivores disperse in a taxon‐specific manner into nearby crops. Pest control by ground‐dwellers slightly increases in crop areas near the flower strips.

Exosome-like Nanovesicles from Hordeum vulgare L. Fermented with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum BMSE-HMP251 Ameliorate LPS-Induced Inflammation in HT-29 and RAW 264.7 Cells

open access: yesMolecules
Human breast milk harbors commensal lactic acid bacteria with probiotic potential, and microbial fermentation may enhance the bioactivity of plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (EVs); this study evaluated whether L.
