A new allele for aluminium tolerance gene in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2016
Aluminium (Al) toxicity is the main factor limiting the crop production in acid soils and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is one of the most Al-sensitive of the small-grained cereals.

Monoterpenoids from Artemisia austriaca essential oil disrupt hormone‐mediated reserve mobilization to suppress Avena fatua seed germination

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Terpenoid compounds from the essential oil of Artemisia austriaca, particularly camphor and 1,8‐cineole, infiltrate seed tissues and impede the germination of Avena fatua (wild oat) seeds by disrupting gibberellic acid and abscisic acid levels, as well as inhibiting critical enzymes involved in starch, lipid and protein metabolism.

Metabolite‐based resistance in wheat varieties to aphid virus vectors: progress and future opportunities

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Sitobion avenae and Rhopalosiphum padi are major pests on wheat. Natural product‐based aphid resistance holds promise for the sustainable control of these pests. The current literature is discussed, highlighting knowledge gaps and challenges that need addressing. Abstract Cereal aphids, Sitobion avenae and Rhopalosiphum padi, cause severe yield loss in

Identification and characterization of a novel QTL for barley yellow mosaic disease resistance from bulbous barley

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
Winter barley (Hordeum vulgare) production areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River are severely threatened by barley yellow mosaic disease, which is caused by Barley yellow mosaic virus and Barley mild mosaic virus.

Olfactory preference in chemical host plant recognition by male and female click beetles and its implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Click beetle (Elateridae) olfactory preferences for plant volatiles, including those released by damaged plants, remain poorly understood. Olfactometer and electroantennography experiments revealed sex‐ and plant species‐specific olfactory preferences of Agriotes sputator beetles, with maturity influencing female responses.

DOES JASMONIC ACID PREVENT THE GERMINATION

open access: yesSüleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Fen Dergisi, 2009
: Effect of jasmonic acid on seed germination and seedling growth of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Bülbül 89) was investigated in the present study. Jasmonic acid concentrations less than 1500 µM have not inhibited the seed germination, while 1500 and ...

Mitochondrial genome sequences from wild and cultivated barley (Hordeum vulgare)

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2016
BackgroundSequencing analysis of mitochondrial genomes is important for understanding the evolution and genome structures of various plant species. Barley is a self-pollinated diploid plant with seven chromosomes comprising a large haploid genome of 5.1 ...
