Biological control of apple scab and fire blight by the application of the non-pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens Bk3 to the leaf surface [PDF]
The biological control of plant diseases by application of antagonistic microorganisms to the plant phyllosphere is an alternative strategy to prevent the frequent treatment of plants by pesticides.

Breeding Crops for Enhanced Food Safety
An increasing global population demands a continuous supply of nutritious and safe food. Edible products can be contaminated with biological (e.g., bacteria, virus, protozoa), chemical (e.g., heavy metals, mycotoxins), and physical hazards during ...

Suppression of Cdc27B expression induces plant defence responses [PDF]
Non-host resistance is the most general form of disease resistance in plants because it is effective against most phytopathogens. The importance of hypersensitive responses (HRs) in non-host resistance of Nicotiana species to the oomycete Phytophthora is

Host Plant Resistance in Brassicaceae against Aphids
This chapter deals with brassica plants and their resistance to sucking pests—aphids. Brassica plants are known to synthesize a number of plant secondary metabolites which impart resistance to insect-pests and diseases. Aphids are known to feed primarily on sieve elements. The sieve elements in vascular bundles of angiosperms are important channels for

ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Plant genes as sources to improve pathogen resistance of cultivated plants [PDF]
Diseases cause large problem in agriculture that the growers usually try to overcome by chemical control. Unfortunately, the amount of applied chemicals increases in every year all over the world.

The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

The expression profile of secondary metabolites in biofilms of B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 8237 biocontrol strain [PDF]
The contribution of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 8237 (UMAF6639) strain to the plant protection against bacterial and fungal pathogens is mainly based on: i) the production of antimicrobial compounds, ii) the plant-growth promotion capability and iii)
