Constitutive modeling and workability characterization of pre-deformed AZ31 magnesium alloy during hot shear-compression deformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Pre-deformation is a cost-efficient method to control the microstructure and mechanical properties of wrought magnesium (Mg) alloys. It introduces twins that promote dynamic recrystallization during hot deformation, thereby improving hot workability and ...

Microstructure evolution during homogenization and hot workability of 7055 aluminum alloy produced by twin-roll casting

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
7055 aluminum alloy was produced by twin-roll casting (TRC) and by conventional mold casting (MC). Homogenization at 465 °C for 24 h with natural cooling was applied, followed by uniaxial hot compression tests to verify the hot workability of the alloy ...

On the Impact Energy Absorption of an Advanced High‐Strength Bilayer Steel Composite Consisting of Carbide‐Free Bainitic Steel and High‐Mn Twinning‐Induced Plasticity Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Excellent combinations of strength and impact toughness are obtained in a bilayer composite of high‐strength carbide‐free bainitic (CFB) steel and high‐ductility twinning‐induced plasticity (TWIP) steel. The composite absorbs energy at small strains when the notch is placed on the TWIP side and at high strains when the notch is placed on the CFB side ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.
