Membrane‐Permeable Nucleoside T‐1106 Diphosphate and Triphosphate Analogues as Antiviral Pronucleotides

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Favipiravir (T‐705) and the non‐fluorinated counterpart (T‐1106) are antiviral agents that inhibit the RNA‐dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of various RNA viruses. The antiviral efficacy of nucleoside analogues is strongly dependent on their intracellular activation by cellular kinases to produce their corresponding triphosphate metabolites (T‐705‐RTP ...

Aqueous Supercapacitor with Wide‐Temperature Operability and over 100,000 Cycles Enabled by Water‐in‐Salt Electrolyte

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
This study presents a symmetric supercapacitor with activated carbon electrodes and a “water‐in‐salt” electrolyte (WiSE) based on lithium perchlorate, offering over 100,000 cycles with over 90 % capacity retention. The supercapacitor operates efficiently from −20 to 80 °C, enhancing performance, stability, and all‐season operability.

An investigation of herpes simplex virus promoter activity compatible with latency establishment reveals VP16-independent activation of immediate-early promoters in sensory neurones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) type-1 establishes lifelong latency in sensory neurones and it is widely assumed that latency is the consequence of a failure to initiate virus immediate-early (IE) gene expression. However, using a Ore reporter mouse system in

Real‐world outcomes of responsive neurostimulation in patients with Lennox–Gastaut syndrome: A multicenter retrospective study

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) characterized by multiple seizure types and high resistance to antiseizure medication (ASM), often necessitating nonpharmacologic therapies, including neuromodulation.

Immunization with a highly attenuated replication-competent herpes simplex virus type 1 mutant, HF10, protects mice from genital disease caused by herpes simplex virus type 2

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Genital herpes is an intractable disease caused mainly by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), and is a major concern in public health. A previous infection with HSV type 1 (HSV-1) enhances protection against primary HSV-2 infection to some extent.

HSV-1 envelope proteins and their roles in entry and membrane fusion.

open access: yes, 2019
(A) HSV-1 entry into cells requires the coordinated efforts of the receptor-binding glycoprotein gD (RCSB PDB: 2C36), the heterodimer gH/gL (RCSB PDB: 3M1C), and the fusogen gB (RCSB PDB: 5V2S).

Nano‐Silver‐Selenium Liquid Dressing Facilitates Treatment of Monkeypox and Prevention of Viral Transmission in a Surrogate Mouse Model

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
There is no effective method to treat this virus and prevent its transmission. To address this, we have developed a nano‐silver‐selenium liquid dressing (AgSe@LD) by combining silver and selenium nanoparticles with commercial liquid dressings. This unique AgSe@LD formulation exhibits good adhesion, stability and toughness and demonstrates efficient ...

Seroepidemiology of Herpes Simplex Viruses Type 1 and 2 in Pregnant Women in Croatia

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) are one of the most widespread causes of human viral infections. In Croatia, only two published studies have analyzed the seroprevalence of HSV infections in childbearing-aged and ...

Detection, quantification and genotyping of Herpes Simplex Virus in cervicovaginal secretions by real-time PCR: a cross sectional survey

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2005
Background Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Genital Ulcer Disease (GUD) is an important public health problem, whose interaction with HIV results in mutually enhancing epidemics. Conventional methods for detecting HSV tend to be slow and insensitive.
