HTLV-1, HTLV-2, and associated diseases

open access: yes, 2010
Abstract Human T-cell leukaemia virus (HTLV)-1 and HTLV-2 belong to the genus Deltaretrovirus of the family Retroviridae. They only infect humans, produce a lifelong infection, and can be transmitted from mother to child, through sexual intercourse, and via cellular blood components and organ transplantation.

Upregulation of HTLV‐1 and HTLV‐2 expression by HIV‐1 in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, 2008
AbstractCo‐infections with HIV‐1 and the human T leukemia virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV‐1, HTLV‐2) occur frequently, particularly in large metropolitan areas where injection drug use is a shared mode of transmission. Recent evidence suggests that HIV‐HTLV co‐infections are associated with upregulated HTLV‐1/2 virus expression and disease. An in vitro model

Trends in the prevalence and distribution of HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 infections in Spain

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2012
Background Although most HTLV infections in Spain have been found in native intravenous drug users carrying HTLV-2, the large immigration flows from Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa in recent years may have changed the prevalence and distribution of ...

The Association of Increase of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type-1 (HTLV-1) Proviral Load (PVL) With Infection in HTLV-1-Positive Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Longitudinal Analysis of Changes in HTLV-1 PVLs in a Single Center Cohort Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
ObjectiveWe evaluated changes of HTLV-1 proviral loads (PVLs) during treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and investigated whether these changes affect the clinical course in HTLV-1-positive RA patients.MethodsA total of 41 HTLV-1-positive RA patients

The discovery of the first human retrovirus: HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 [PDF]

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2005
AbstractI describe here the history leading up to and including my laboratory's discovery of the first human retrovirus, HTLV-I, and its close relative, HTLV-II. My efforts were inspired by early work showing a retroviral etiology for leukemias in various animals, including non-human primates.

ADAR1 enhances HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 replication through inhibition of PKR activity [PDF]

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2014
The role of innate immunity in general and of type I interferon (IFN-I) in particular in HTLV-1 pathogenesis is still a matter of debate. ADAR1-p150 is an Interferon Stimulated Gene (ISG) induced by IFN-I that can edit viral RNAs. We therefore investigated whether it could play the role of an anti-HTLV factor. We demonstrate here that ADAR1 is also ...

Sequential, chromosome‐specific glutamine synthetase double knockout with Cas‐CLOVER establishes enhanced CHO platforms for cell line development

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
This study established the first creation of a commercially available double GS knockout (DKO) from a single KO in CHO‐K1 cells, called CleanCut GS CHO using Cas‐CLOVER. When combined with the Harbor‐IN transposase system, CleanCut GS CHO cells demonstrated a highly antibody productivity.
