Human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV-I) antibodies in Africa.
Science, 1984Antibodies specific for human T-cell leukemia-lymphoma virus type I (HTLV-I) were demonstrated in serum samples from various groups of people in South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Egypt. The samples had been collected for other purposes and were presumably selected without bias toward clinical conditions associated with HTLV infections.

Antibodies to HTLV‐I in populations of the southwestern Pacific
Journal of Medical Virology, 1988AbstractSera collected from 1,102 individuals in 14 populations of the southwestern Pacific between 1956 and 1979 were tested by ELISA for antibodies to human T‐cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV‐I). Selected sera were also tested by particle agglutination and immunoblotting.

Antibodies to HTLV-I in Japanese immigrants in Brazil.
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1986To the Editor.— Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia, is endemic in southern Japan, 1 the Caribbean islands, 2 and parts of Africa. 3 The prevalence of antibodies to HTLV-I is highest in Okinawa, Japan, where up to 31% of adults are seropositive in some regions. 4 Moreover, a high seroprevalence

High titers of antibody to human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) have been reported in the sera and cerebrospinal fluids of patients with tropical spastic paraparesis. By means of agarose isoelectric focusing and selective immunoblotting, we demonstrated oligoclonal bands of immunoglobulin G antibodies to HTLV-I in the serum and cerebrospinal ...

Antibody profile of early HTLV-I infection
The Lancet, 1990To define the antibody profile of early seroconversion in infection with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), consecutive serum samples from 10 subjects presumed to have seroconverted on the basis of the particle agglutination test were studied by three enzyme immunoassays and two confirmatory tests (radioimmunoprecipitation and western ...
