Collection of Metaphors for Human-Robot Interaction

open access: yesConference on Designing Interactive Systems, 2021
The word “robot” frequently conjures unrealistic expectations of utilitarian perfection: tireless, efficient and flawless agents. However, real-world robots are far from perfect—they fail and make mistakes.

Biomechanical and Physiological Evaluation of Biologically-Inspired Hip Assistance With Belt-Type Soft Exosuits

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, 2022
Hip-assisted soft exosuits have been reported for their effect on reducing the metabolic power of human walking. Currently, most studies focus on uni-directional assistance (HF: hip flexion, or HE: hip extension). This paper investigates the effect of bi-

Human-Aware Navigation Planner for Diverse Human-Robot Interaction Contexts

open access: yesIEEE/RJS International Conference on Intelligent RObots and Systems, 2021
As more robots are being deployed into human environments, a human-aware navigation planner needs to handle multiple contexts that occur in indoor and outdoor environments. In this paper, we propose a tunable human-aware robot navigation planner that can

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

A recurrent reinforcement learning approach applicable to highly uncertain environments

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2020
Reinforcement learning has been a promising approach in control and robotics since data-driven learning leads to non-necessity of engineering knowledge. However, it usually requires many interactions with environments to train a controller.

Social Robots on a Global Stage: Establishing a Role for Culture During Human–Robot Interaction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Social Robotics, 2020
Robotic agents designed to assist people across a variety of social and service settings are becoming increasingly prevalent across the world. Here we synthesise two decades of empirical evidence from human–robot interaction (HRI) research to focus on ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
