Generation of a constitutively expressing Tetracycline repressor (TetR) human embryonic stem cell line BJNhem20-TetR

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2016
Human embryonic stem cell line BJNhem20-TetR was generated using non-viral method. The construct pCAG-TetRnls was transfected using microporation procedure.

Micro- and nanoengineering approaches to control stem cell-biomaterial interactions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
As our population ages, there is a greater need for a suitable supply of engineered tissues to address a range of debilitating ailments. Stem cell based therapies are envisioned to meet this emerging need. Despite significant progress in controlling stem

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Stem cell therapy for diabetes

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012
Stem cell therapy holds immense promise for the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. Research on the ability of human embryonic stem cells to differentiate into islet cells has defined the developmental stages and transcription factors involved ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Generation of Human Epidermis-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell-like Pluripotent Cells and their reprogramming in mouse chimeras [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stem cells can be derived from the embryo (embryonic stem cells, ESCs), from adult tissues (adult stem cells, ASCs), and by induction of fibroblasts (induced pluripotent stem cells, iPSs).

Expression of FGF19 in human embryonic stem cells [PDF]

open access: yesStem Cells, 2013
In human embryonic stem cells, continuous stimulation with fibroplast growthfactor 2 is required for self-renewal. inhibition of FGF2 signaling results in rapid differentiation, further underscoring the importance of FGF system in maintenance of hESC undifferentiated state.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Mouse and human embryonic stem cells

open access: yesRussian Journal of Genetics: Applied Research, 2013
This mini review is focused on the current state in the field of mouse and human embryonic stem (ES) cell biology. Methods of ES cell derivation, pluripotency assessment and problems associated with long term cultivating in vitro are discussed. Attention is given to some unresolved questions of ES cell biology and prospects of ES cells in cell therapy.
