Switching of Receptor Binding Poses between Closely Related Enteroviruses

open access: yes, 2022
Echoviruses, for which there are currently no approved vaccines or drugs, are responsible for a range of human diseases, for example echovirus 11 (E11) is a major cause of serious neonatal morbidity and mortality.

Molecular evolution and circulation dynamic of human non-polio enteroviruses across Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Objectives: Human non-polio enteroviruses represent major public health concerns due to frequent outbreaks. Our study used genomic data to analyze the molecular epidemiology and circulation pattern of NPEVs in Africa, assess their inter-host transmission

Isolation of Human Enteroviruses from Beagle Dogs

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1968
SummaryOne hundred and sixty-four isolations of Coxsackie viruses B1, B3, and B5 and ECHO virus 6 related if not identical to human viruses of the same types, were isolated from nose, throat, and rectal swabs collected from beagle dogs. Such isolations have not been previously reported except from the ECHO virus 6 which was again recovered.

Eight Years of Experience with Molecular Identification of Human Enteroviruses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2008
ABSTRACT We have successfully typed 1,121 human enterovirus (HEV) isolates during the last 8 years by adapting partial VP1 sequencing to routine identification of HEV isolated from diverse clinical and environmental specimens. The isolates include 48 of the 59 traditional nonpoliovirus HEV serotypes and members of 8 newly discovered types ...

Neurodevelopmental Disorder with Dystonia and Chorea Linked to De Novo Variants in the Splicing Regulator SRRM4

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background SRRM4 is an exclusively neural‐expressed splicing‐factor gene not yet associated with a monogenic condition. Objective We sought to delineate movement disorders caused by SRRM4 variants. De novo splice‐donor‐site variants at position +2 of intron 5 of SRRM4 (c.464+2T>C, c.464+2T>A) occurred in three unrelated patients with dystonia ...

High Prevalence of Human Enterovirus A Infections in Natural Circulation of Human Enteroviruses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2006
ABSTRACT Human enterovirus (HEV) infections can be asymptomatic or cause only mild illness; recent evidence may implicate HEV infection in type 1 diabetes mellitus and myocarditis. Here, we report the molecular characterization of HEV obtained in serial monthly collections from healthy Norwegian infants.

Association of Salivary Micro Ribonucleic Acid Levels With the Severity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection in Children

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
This cohort study of 395 children (mean age 7 years) with SARS‐CoV‐2 demonstrates that measuring levels of miR‐296‐5p in saliva at the time of initial clinical presentation may aid the prognosis of severe symptoms. ABSTRACT Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) may impact immune‐related micro ribonucleic acids (miRNAs).

Oncolytic Vaccinia Virus‐HSP70‐shRNA Amplifies Viral Replication, ROS/Autophagy, and Immunity to Fight Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
OncoVV‑shHSP70, a vaccinia virus silencing HSP70, demonstrated potent antitumor efficacy in colorectal cancer cell lines, as well as in syngeneic, xenograft, and humanized mouse models. In cell lines, oncoVV‑shHSP70 promoted viral oncolysis and cytokine production through a self‑reinforcing cycle of ROS‑autophagy. In both CT26 and SW620‑humanized mouse

Enterovirus and Encephalitis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Enterovirus-induced infection of the central nervous system (CNS) results in acute inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) and constitutes a significant global burden to human health.

Associations between pathogens in the upper respiratory tract of young children: interplay between viruses and bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
High rates of potentially pathogenic bacteria and respiratory viruses can be detected in the upper respiratory tract of healthy children. Investigating presence of and associations between these pathogens in healthy individuals is still a rather ...
