The molecular determinants and consequences of recombination in the evolution of human enteroviruses [PDF]
Recombination is an important biological process in a diverse range of viruses, particularly those with single-stranded ribonucleic acid (RNA) genomes including the enteroviruses.

The Role of Viruses in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the presence and potential pathogenic role of viruses in periodontitis. Design: Narrative Review; Population: Patients with periodontitis; Exposure: Detection of viruses in oral samples (biopsies, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, subgingival plaque, blood); Outcome: Viral prevalence, load ...

Prevalence and Genetic Diversity of Human Enteroviruses in the Context of Poliovirus Eradication [PDF]
Viruses belonging to the family Picornaviridae are small, non-enveloped viruses with a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genome. Up to present, thirteen genera within this large family have been designated by the International Committee on Taxonomy of ...

Viral Encephalitis with Focus on Human Enteroviruses [PDF]
The field of infectious diseases is an exciting field with new agents emerging continuously. The emergence of new diseases is partly contributed by our growing population, expansion of residential areas into previously uninhabited areas and increase in global travel.

Use of Human Kidney Cultures in the Study of Enteroviruses.
Summary1) Human kidney cultures were prepared successfully from tissues obtained following surgical removal or at autopsy from individuals of all ages, when specimens were collected promptly. 2) Baby kidney cells were superior to adult both for culture growth and for isolation and propagation of enteroviruses.

Virus‐Specific Impact of Respiratory Viruses on Adult Emergency Department Outcomes
ABSTRACT Few studies have examined the impact of community‐acquired respiratory viruses (CRVs) on emergency department visits and outcomes in adults. This study aimed to characterize the epidemiology of CRV infections and assess associations between virus types and clinical outcomes.

Immunological Interactions Between Gammadelta T Cells and West Nile Virus in the Infected Host
ABSTRACT Between mosquitoes and birds, West Nile virus (WNV) is a neurotropic flavivirus, an arthropod‐borne pathogen involved in an enzootic cycle. Additionally, it can infect both people and horses, leading to severe illness. Since 1999, WNV has spread across North and South America, including Mexico and the Caribbean.

ENTEROVIRUS INFECTION: VARIETY OF ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS AND CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
. Enteroviruses are widely distributed human infectious pathogens. In spite of infection a disease does not manifest in majority number of cases. However, in some infected persons the different kind of symptoms can be observed; from common cold signs up ...

Beyond Hemostasis: Platelet Biomarkers and Vascular‐Immune Crosstalk in Dengue
Several biomarkers are associated with platelet activation during dengue virus (DENV) infection. These include serum markers (AST, ALT, ferritin), platelet surface or secreted molecules (P‐selectin, PF4, RANTES, VEGF‐A, CD40L, TREM‐1, TLT‐1), immune and endothelial markers (TREM‐1, Ang‐1, Ang‐2), and viral components such as DENV EIII.
