Cloning and gene assignment of mRNAs of human parainfluenza virus 3
Virology, 1985Cytoplasmic poly(A)-containing RNA from parainfluenza virus 3-infected cells was used as template to construct a cDNA library that was cloned into the EcoRV site of the plasmid pMG5. The resulting clones were screened with [32P]-labeled cDNA probes made from infected and mock-infected cell mRNAs.

Evolution of the fusion protein gene of human parainfluenza virus 3
Virus Research, 1992The nucleotide sequences of the fusion (F) gene of 15 clinical strains of human parainfluenza virus 3 (HPIV3) isolated between 1959 and 1987 were compared with the F gene sequence of the prototype strain, Wash/47885/57. Nucleotide sequence diversity was greatest in the noncoding regions of the F gene; however, regions believed to function as ...

Characterization of human parainfluenza virus-3 circulating in Israel, 2012-2015
Journal of Clinical Virology, 2018Human parainfluenza virus 3 (hPIV-3) causes respiratory tract infection. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiology of hPIV-3 infection among hospitalized patients and characterize the circulating strains.A cross-sectional study was conducted using respiratory samples of 15,946 hospitalized patients with respiratory symptoms in 2012 ...

Liver Enzyme Elevation Related to Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 Infection
Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2022The human parainfluenza viruses are common causes of upper and lower respiratory tract infection; however, nonrespiratory infections with human parainfluenza viruses are rare, and there are no reports of pediatric cases of liver enzyme elevation. We present 2 pediatric patients who developed liver enzyme elevation related to human parainfluenza virus ...

Intracellular synthesis of human parainfluenza type 3 virus-specified polypeptides
Journal of Virology, 1985The intracellular synthesis of human parainfluenza type 3 virus-specified polypeptides was examined by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of [35S]methionine-labeled cell extracts under reducing conditions. All of the virion structural proteins were detected in cell extracts, including: L, 180,000 molecular weight (180K); P, 83K; HN, 69K; NP, 66K; F0 ...

Bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV-3) was evaluated as a candidate live-virus vaccine to protect against infection with human PIV-3. The level of replication of bovine and human PIV-3 and the efficacy of immunization with bovine PIV-3 in protecting against subsequent challenge with human PIV-3 was evaluated in nonhuman primates.

Regulation of human parainfluenza virus type 3 transcription.
2009To elucidate the roles of the junctional elements in HPIV3 transcription, cDNAs were constructed containing CAT and luciferase reporter genes flanked by sequences representing the HPIV3 termini necessary for transcription, replication and packaging. Mutations to the gene end sequence abolished expression of the upstream and downstream genes.

Sulfatide negatively regulates the fusion process of human parainfluenza virus type 3
Journal of Biochemistry, 2012Sulfatide (HSO(3)-3-galactosylceramide), which enriched in lipid rafts of plasma membranes in various epithelial cell lines, is a critical component of host cells for effective production of influenza A virus. However, the function of sulfatide in other virus infections targeting epithelial cells remains unknown.

Structural characterization of virion proteins and genomic RNA of human parainfluenza virus 3
Journal of Virology, 1984The virion proteins and genomic RNA of human parainfluenza virus 3 have been characterized. The virion contains seven major and two minor proteins. Three proteins of 195 X 10(3) molecular weight (195K), 87K, and 67K are associated with the nucleocapsid of the virion and have been designated L, P, and NP, respectively. Three proteins can be labeled with

The DI–DII linker of human parainfluenza virus type 3 fusion protein is critical for the virus
Virus Genes, 2019Human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3) causes the majority of childhood viral pneumonia around the world. Fusing the viral and target cell membranes is crucial for its entry into target cells, and the fusion process requires the concerted actions of two viral glycoproteins: hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) and fusion (F) protein. After binding to the
