Importance of Hyaluronan-CD44 Signaling in Tumor Progression : Crosstalk with TGFβ and PDGF-BB Signaling

open access: yes, 2013
In order for solid tumors to metastasize, tumor cells must acquire the ability to invade the surrounding tissue and intravasate into blood- or lymph vessels, survive in the circulation and then extravasate at a distant site to form a new tumor ...

Aptamer‐Based Delivery Systems for VEGF and NGF Modulation in Ocular Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 23, 19 June 2026.
Aptamer‐based delivery systems targeting NGF and VEGF hold significant potential for precise and sustained treatment of complex diseases affecting both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. This review critically summarizes current strategies for NGF and VEGF delivery as well as VEGF sequestration, providing a clinical perspective on how ...

The Polymers of Life: Exploring Cellular Function Through Polymer Concepts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 33, 15 June 2026.
Biomolecular phase separation reveals that a hidden layer of cellular organization is governed by the principles of polymer science. This review bridges polymer physics and cell biology, offering a primer on fundamental concepts, proposing a framework for interrogating cellular function, and synthesizing biophysical methods for decoding macromolecular ...

In vitro and in vivo analysis of human cell-based immunotherapies for acute myeloid leukemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Conventional cancer therapies like surgery, radiation and chemotherapy help to eliminate primary tumor masses but often fail to eradicate disseminated tumor cells.

Integrating antibody–drug conjugates into solid tumor oncology: Current standards and future directions

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue S1, 1 June 2026.
Abstract Antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) represent a major advance in precision oncology, combining the selectivity of monoclonal antibodies with the cytotoxic potency of chemotherapy. By enabling targeted intracellular delivery of highly potent payloads, ADCs aim to maximize antitumor activity while minimizing systemic toxicity. This review summarizes

Sensing and Communicating β‐Cell Stress in the Context of T1D Etiology: New Opportunities for Therapeutic Impact

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2026.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results from the immune‐mediated destruction of insulin‐producing pancreatic β‐cells. Recent human studies show that early β‐cell stress maladaptations precede overt immune cell infiltration. DOC2B, a vesicle secretion regulatory protein that supports β‐cell functionality and resilience against stress, declines early in T1D ...

Multi‐Omics Analyses Elucidate the Venom Components of the Wasp Vespa mandarinia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
The wasp Vespa mandarinia was widely reared in Yunnan province. The venom was responsible for their aggressive behavior. Tweety proteases, hyaluronidase, venom dipeptidyl peptidase 4, and phospholipase A1 and A2 isozyme were identified. In addition, organic heterocyclic compounds, organic acids, and derivatives were found.

Epigenetic Aging in Brain Tissue of the Self‐Fertilizing Vertebrate, Kryptolebias marmoratus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Using the self‐fertilizing vertebrate Kryptolebias marmoratus, we developed an epigenetic clock from brain tissue that predicts chronological age with high accuracy, demonstrating that DNA methylation changes consistently with age even in the near absence of genetic variation. The 40 age‐associated CpG sites identified map to genes with conserved roles
