Analysis of Hydroxy Acids

1983
The variety of hydroxy acids derived from arachidonic acid and other polyunsaturated fatty acids that have been isolated from mammalian tissues is increasing rapidly. These hydroxy acids are products of metabolism initiated by several different enzymes.

Omega hydroxy fatty acid dehydrogenase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1961
Abstract 1. 1. A DPN-dependent dehydrogenase which catalyzes the oxidation of C9, C10, and C11 omega hydroxy fatty acids was extracted from hog liver. The postulated product of the oxidation, omega oxo fatty acid, reversed the reaction in the presence of the purified enzyme. 2. 2.

Hydroxy fatty acids of azotobacter agilis

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Lipids and Related Subjects, 1963
Abstract Approximately half of the fatty acids recovered after alkaline hydrolysis of the bound lipid of Azotobacter agilis were hydroxy acids. The hydroxy acids were isolated by gas-liquid chromatography and were identified as 3-hydroxydecanoic, 3-hydroxydodecanoic and 2-hydroxydodecanoic acids by the retention volume of the methyl ester in gas ...

Irin and a hydroxy-acid from brain

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1963
Abstract Intraocular injections of irin mimic the prolonged atropine-resistant miosis elicited by “antidromic” mechanical stimulation of the trigeminal nerve in rabbits. Procedures for extraction, assay and purification of irin are described, and the evidence that it is a lipid-soluble unsaturated hydroxy-acid.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids in Skin Care

Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1996
Although not surgery in the traditional sense, skin care offers the ability to treat patients with a wide range of skin pathology. Skin care is another facet in facial rejuvenation, whose magnitude will increase as the pathophysiology and treatment of photoaging and other skin conditions becomes better understood.

Hydroxy Fatty Acid Metabolism in Brain

1968
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the biosynthesis metabolism of hydroxy fatty acid (HFA) in brain. While a great variety of chain lengths is to be found in the HFA of other animal tissues, the assortment in brain is rather limited. Cerebronic acid (h24:0) is by far the main acid, with h22:0 and h24:l next, and h23:0, h25:l, and h26:l next in ...

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

2001
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) constitute a class of compounds that exert specific and unique effects on skin structures. The therapeutic utility of these acids continues to expand; when applied to the skin in higher concentrations they cause detachment of keratinocytes and epidermolysis while application in lower concentration reduces intercorneocyte ...

Effect of hydroxy acids on hypercholesterolaemia in rats

Atherosclerosis, 1980
Hydroxy acids (aliphatic and aromatic) which are present in legumes were added as supplements to a diet causing hypercholesterolaemia in rats. Ferulic, p-coumaric, phytic and uronic acids showed hypolipidemic activity while vanillic, caffeic and cinnamic acids did not. The trace mineral content of serum was not affected by these acids.
