Hyperinsulinemia and Uric Acid Clearance
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1992To the Editor. —I read with great interest the article by Facchini et al, 1 which correlated uric acid clearance with insulin resistance. Such an explanation fits with earlier studies in which the administration of antilipemic doses of nicotinic acid induced hyperglycemia, abnormal glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hyperuricemia, and apparent ...

Hyperinsulinemia—How Innocent a Bystander?
Diabetes Care, 1993Hyperinsulinemia is very much in the spotlight. Debate rages as to its significance and role in the etiology not only of NIDDM, but also other morphological and metabolic risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, including upper-body obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and hyperuricemia.

Aging was thought to be a haphazard process, which was not driven by any defined mechanisms. Recently, it has been reported that changing in single gene expression can extend lifespan. Many mutations that extend lifespan are involved in endocrine signaling.

Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia: is hyperinsulinemia the cart or the horse?
Diabetes care, 2008Insulin resistance, recently recognized as a strong predictor of disease in adults, has become the leading element of the metabolic syndrome and renewed as a focus of research. The condition exists when insulin levels are higher than expected relative to the level of glucose. Thus, insulin resistance is by definition tethered to hyperinsulinemia.

Hyperinsulinemia in childhood cirrhosis.
Helvetica paediatrica acta, 1979Circulating insulin was determined by radioimmunoassay in ten children with cirrhosis of the liver and in 6 age-matched controls. They were found to be elevated in cirrhotics during fasting as well as at 1/2, 1, 1 1/2 and 2 h during the oral glucose tolerance test.
