Neuroprotective effects of ursodeoxycholic acid in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
In Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), various shared pathological mechanisms exist. UDCA has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects in preclinical and clinical studies. Such effects include the mitigation of neuroinflammation as well as rescue effects on mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, impaired autophagy, and ...

Non-cirrhotic intrahepatic portal hypertension

open access: yes, 2007

No increased risk of spinal cerebrospinal fluid leak after spinal manipulative therapy: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, a rare but debilitating condition, have been described following spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) in case reports. However, the nature of the potential association between SMT and CSF leak is uncertain, and symptoms such as neck pain or headache may reflect preexisting leaks rather than ...

Prevalence of gastric varices and portal hypertensive gastropathy in patients with Symmers periportal fibrosis

open access: yesAnnals of Saudi Medicine, 2008
Background and Objective: Symmers′ periportal fibrosis secondary to schistosomiasis is a common cause of portal hypertension worldwide. Data on the prevalence of gastric varices and portal hypertensive gastropathy in this group of patients with ...

Microbubble‐Based Ultrasound Contrast Agents in Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasonography for Managing Portal Hypertension in Cirrhosis

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
As the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) remains the current gold standard for diagnosing portal hypertension in cirrhosis, its clinical application is limited by invasiveness, high cost, and restricted availability. Given the urgent need for noninvasive techniques to dynamically monitor portal vein pressure (PVP), contrast‐enhanced ...

Sono‐Vasomics With Super‐Resolution Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasound (SR‐CEUS) for Characterization of Focal Liver Lesions: A Case Report

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate differentiation between benign and malignant focal liver lesions (FLLs) remains a major diagnostic challenge. Vasomics, an emerging discipline, classifies vascular phenotypes into anatomical, biomechanical, biochemical, pathophysiological, and composite categories. Sono‐Vasomics, the ultrasound‐based subset, leverages super‐resolution

Endoscopic Treatment for Esophagogastric Variceal Bleeding in Patients With Acute‐on‐Chronic Liver Failure: An Observational Study

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
In patients with acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF), esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EGVB) represents a critical complication associated with high short‐term mortality. This study evaluated the efficacy of endoscopic treatment in this specific population and identified prognostic factors associated with 6‐week rebleeding and mortality.

A Case of Ileal Conduit Bleeding Caused by Porto‐Sinusoidal Vascular Disorder

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 60‐year‐old man presented with recurrent stomal bleeding for 3 years. He had undergone cystoprostatectomy with ileal conduit diversion for bladder cancer 7 years prior. Endoscopy revealed multiple protruding lesions (0.6–0.8 cm) inside the stoma, which were initially suspected to be ectopic varices given concomitant esophageal varices and ...

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.

Head‐to‐Head Comparison of Four Ultrasound Elastography Techniques in Detecting Advanced Fibrosis

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
Elastography is an important noninvasive method for diagnosing advanced fibrosis (AF); however, evidence remains insufficient, particularly regarding acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) techniques. This prospective mulitcenter study concludes that vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE) demonstrates superior diagnostic performance to ...
