Hypothalamic hormone-producing tumors

2021
The hypothalamus is functional neuroendocrine tissue that is responsible for the synthesis and secretion of peptide hormones that regulate the pituitary and other endocrine functions. Endocrine tumors of the hypothalamus are rare but they provide a model for tumors that have both structural and functional effects.

Hypothalamic Regulatory Hormones

Science, 1973
The molecular structures of several polypeptides isolated from hypothalamic tissue have been established and the synthesis of these compounds has been achieved. These polypeptides selectively stimulate or inhibit the release of anterior pituitary hormones and melanocyte-stimulating hormone.

Hypothalamic Hormones and Cancer

Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology, 2001
The use of peptide analogs for the therapy of various cancers is reviewed. Inhibition of the pituitary-gonadal axis forms the basis for oncological applications of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) agonists and antagonists, but direct effects on tumors may also play a role.

Hypothalamic aging and hormones

2021
It is the heterogeneous changes of hypothalamic functions that determine the chronological sequence of aging in mammals. Recently, it was hypothesized by Cai the decrease in slow-wave sleep (SWS) resulting from skin aging as responsible for the degeneration of hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN).
