Hypothermic Machine Perfusion in Liver Transplantation - A Randomized Trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
BACKGROUND: Transplantation of livers obtained from donors after circulatory death is associated with an increased risk of nonanastomotic biliary strictures.

Preservation of Donor Hearts Using Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Transplantation, 2014
Hypothermic machine perfusion of donor hearts enables continuous aerobic metabolism and washout of toxic metabolic byproducts. We evaluated the effect of machine perfusion on cardiac myocyte integrity in hearts preserved for 4 h in a novel device that provides pulsatile oxygenated hypothermic perfusion (Paragonix Sherpa Perfusion™ Cardiac Transport ...

Viability assessment and transplantation of fatty liver grafts using end‐ischemic normothermic machine perfusion

open access: yesLiver Transplantation, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract End‐ischemic viability testing by normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) represents an effective strategy to recover liver grafts having initially been discarded for liver transplantation (LT). However, its results in the setting of significant (≥30%) macrovesicular steatosis (MaS) have not been specifically assessed.

Randomized preclinical study of machine perfusion in vascularized composite allografts

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study was designed to identify the optimum machine perfusion parameters for preservation of limbs before transplantation, and determine whether this was better than cold storage. Normothermic machine perfusion at a pressure of 70 mmHg (NMP‐70) provided superior preservation to cold storage after transplantation.

Establishment and assessment of pancreas preservation using oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Pancreatic transplantation is the treatment of choice for a selected group of patients with the most severe complications of diabetes. The two main causes of early failure in this transplant are pancreatitis and venous graft thrombosis.

Prolonged Normothermic Ex Vivo Kidney Perfusion Is Superior to Cold Nonoxygenated and Oxygenated Machine Perfusion for the Preservation of DCD Porcine Kidney Grafts

open access: yesTransplantation Direct, 2021
Background. The increased usage of marginal grafts has triggered interest in perfused kidney preservation to minimize graft injury. We used a donation after circulatory death (DCD) porcine kidney autotransplantation model to compare 3 of the most ...

Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion of the human pancreas for clinical islet isolation: a prospective feasibility study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Due to an increasing scarcity of pancreases with optimal donor characteristics, islet isolation centers utilize pancreases from extended criteria donors, such as from donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors, which are particularly susceptible to ...

Ex Situ Dual Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion for Human Split Liver Transplantation

open access: yesTransplantation Direct, 2021
Background. Liver splitting allows the opportunity to share a deceased graft between 2 recipients but remains underutilized. We hypothesized that liver splitting during continuous dual hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (DHOPE) is feasible, with ...

Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion prevents arteriolonecrosis of the peribiliary plexus in pig livers donated after circulatory death. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BackgroundLivers derived from donation after circulatory death (DCD) are increasingly accepted for transplantation. However, DCD livers suffer additional donor warm ischemia, leading to biliary injury and more biliary complications after transplantation.
