MicroRNA‐34a‐Dependent Attenuation of Angiogenesis in Right Ventricular Failure

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The right ventricle (RV) is at risk in patients with complex congenital heart disease involving right‐sided obstructive lesions. We have shown that capillary rarefaction occurs early in the pressure‐loaded RV.

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Non-Canonical Mechanisms Regulating Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1 Alpha in Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2017
Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) orchestrates cellular adaptation to low oxygen and nutrient-deprived environment and drives progression to malignancy in human solid cancers. Its canonical regulation involves prolyl hydroxylases (PHDs), which in

Interfacial Bioengineering of Dynamic Networks Hybrid Hydrogel for Programmed Intervention in Oral Precancerous Epithelial States

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a dual‐bioinspired hydrogel, MSA@PGel (macrophage membrane‐coated and salvianolic acid B/5‐aminolevulinic acid co‐loaded liposomes embedded in a polydopamine‐based gel), that integrates macrophage membrane‐mediated active targeting and mussel‐inspired wet adhesion for programmed intervention in oral precancerous lesions.

ILKAP Binding to and Dephosphorylating HIF-1α is Essential for Apoptosis Induced by Severe Hypoxia

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2018
Background/Aims: Integrin-linked kinase-associated phosphatase (ILKAP), a serine/threonine phosphatase that belongs to the protein phosphatase 2C family, has a role in cell survival and apoptosis.

Advanced 3D Platforms for Modeling CNS Neuroinflammation: Cell Integration, Techniques, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the roles of key central nervous system cell types, the extracellular matrix, and the blood‐brain barrier in neuroinflammation, and their integration into diverse 3D culture systems. It examines major incorporation strategies, including direct co‐culture, hydrogel encapsulation, transwell migration assays, and bioprinting ...

Pathophysiological Response to Hypoxia — From the Molecular Mechanisms of Malady to Drug Discovery: Inflammatory Responses of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1α (HIF-1α) in T Cells Observed in Development of Vascular Remodeling

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2011
Recent studies have shown that the cellular immune response to the hypoxic microenvironment constructed by vascular remodeling development modulates the resulting pathologic alterations.

SirT3 suppresses hypoxia inducible factor 1α and tumor growth by inhibiting mitochondrial ROS production

open access: yesOncogene, 2011
It has become increasing clear that alterations in cellular metabolism have a key role in the generation and maintenance of cancer. Some of the metabolic changes can be attributed to the activation of oncogenes or loss of tumor suppressors. Here, we show

Start, Stop, Rewind, Repeat—Cyclic Exposure of Adipose Stromal Cells‐derived Cartilage Organoids to Chondrogenic and Proliferative Cues to Achieve Scaled‐up and Customizable Bone Formation by Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study exploits the plasticity of ASCs‐derived cartilage organoids which generate a perichondrial layer of MSCs when exposed to cyclic chondrogenic/proliferative cues. Using these organoids as building blocks, we develop (i) Phalange Shaped Tissue Engineered Cartilage (Pa‐TECs), recapitulating endochondral ossification suitable for the treatment of

Regulation of the Hypoxia-inducible Transcription Factor 1α by the Ubiquitin-Proteasome Pathway*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1999
HIF-1α (hypoxia-inducible factor 1α) is a basic-helix-loop-helix PAS (Per/Arnt/Sim) transcription factor that, under hypoxic conditions, dimerizes with a partner factor, the basic-helix-loop-helix/PAS protein Arnt, to recognize hypoxia-responsive ...
