Ibotenic acid in Amanita muscaria spores and caps
Mycologist, 2004Summary Ibotenic acid (α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-isoxazole acetic acid) was separated from spores and caps from Amanita muscaria by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography and identified by flow injection analysis with mass spectrometric detection.

New class of glutamate agonist structurally related to ibotenic acid
Nature, 1980L-Glutamic acid (Glu) and L-aspartic acid (Asp) are putative excitatory transmitters in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS)1–3. Receptors at Glu- and Asp-mediated synapses are presumably different4,5, and a prerequisite for the identification and characterisation of such sites is the availability of specific antagonists and agonists.

Social memory is impaired in neonatally ibotenic acid lesioned rats
Behavioural Brain Research, 2000Postnatal lesion with ibotenic acid in the ventral hippocampus produces several behavioural effects that resemble the symptoms of schizophrenia. In the present study, we tested neonatally lesioned 1-year-old Sprague-Dawley rats for their social memory. It was found that social memory is worsened in lesioned rats.

Effects of ibotenic acid lesions of the Nucleus Accumbens on instrumental action
Behavioural Brain Research, 1994In a series of studies, we assessed the effects of ibotenic acid lesions of the nucleus accumbens on instrumental performance in hungry rats. Although these lesions were found to generally impair lever press performance for both food pellets and a sucrose solution, they did not affect sensitivity to changes in the incentive value of the outcome induced

Determination of muscimol and ibotenic acid in mushrooms of Amanitaceae by capillary electrophoresis
ELECTROPHORESIS, 2014In this study, the CZE method for rapid quantitative and qualitative determination of ibotenic acid and muscimol in Amanita mushrooms naturally grown in Poland was developed. The investigations included the species of A. muscaria, A. pantherina, and A. citrina, collected in southern region of Poland.

On the use of ibotenic acid to lesion selectively different components of the hippocampal formation
Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1989Procedures are described for lesioning two components of the hippocampal formation (hippocampus, subiculum) using multiple injections of small amounts of ibotenic acid (IBO). The resulting loss of cells is more selective and limited than can be obtained with conventional techniques.

Behavioral impairments after lesions of the nucleus basalis by ibotenic acid and quisqualic acid
Brain Research, 1991Ibotenic acid (IBO) or quisqualic acid (QUIS) was infused into the region of the nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NBm) in F344 rats in order to behaviorally and biochemically characterize the effects of these two neurotoxins. QUIS infusion resulted in a slightly higher depletion of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity in both anterior and ...

Ibotenic acid-induced nigral lesion and limbic seizure in cats
Brain Research, 1989The degenerative lesions of bilateral substantia nigra (SN) were made by means of microinjections of ibotenic acid (IBO) solutions and influences upon kainic acid (KA)-induced seizures were studied. IBO solutions were injected bilaterally into SN and circumscribed degenerative lesions were made within the bilateral SN.

Fungal Hallucinogens Psilocin, Ibotenic Acid, and Muscimol
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 2013Psychoactive drugs of fungal origin, psilocin, ibotenic acid, and muscimol among them have been proposed for recreational use and popularized since the 1960s, XX century. Despite their well-documented neurotoxicity, they reached reputation of being safe and nonaddictive.

Ingestive behavior of rats with ibotenic acid lesions of the dorsomedial hypothalamus
American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1987Rats with electrolytic or kainic acid (KA) lesions of the dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus area (DMHA-L) are hypophagic, hypodipsic, and have a reduced body weight (BW) compared with controls. In the present study, male Sprague-Dawley rats received bilateral ibotenic acid (IBO) lesions of the DMHA (3 micrograms in 0.3 microliter) or sham (S ...
