Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

New organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts from recent sediments of central Asian seas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Recent to sub-recent sediments from the Caspian Sea, the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay, the Enseli lake and the Aral Sea contain the new organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts Caspidinium, Caspidinium rugosum and Impagidinium caspienense.

Thermal Sidewall Ice Corer (TSIC) to recover samples from boreholes drilled in glaciers and ice sheets

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
The proposed Thermal Sidewall Ice Corer (TSIC) is designed to accurately sample horizontal ice layers of scientific interest, such as tephra layers, basal ice and shear zones, and retrieve ice cores back to the surface. The system features a bending core

Characteristics of ice rises and ice rumples in Dronning Maud Land and Enderby Land, Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2020
Ice rises and rumples, locally grounded features adjacent to ice shelves, are relatively small yet play significant roles in Antarctic ice dynamics. Their roles generally depend upon their location within the ice shelf and the stage of the ice-sheet ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Northern Hemisphere Glaciation during the Globally Warm Early Late Pliocene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The early Late Pliocene (3.6 to ~3.0 million years ago) is the last extended interval in Earth's history when atmospheric CO2 concentrations were comparable to today's and global climate was warmer.

What Lies Beneath? Interdisciplinary Outcomes of the ANDRILL Coulman High Project Site Surveys on the Ross Ice Shelf [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
Extensive field operations were conducted on the northwestern Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica from November 2010 through January 2011. A significant amount of equipment, supplies, and people safely traversed from McMurdo Station to establish a series of ...
