The ice shelves in the Amundsen Sea are being melted rapidly by warm Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW), causing sea‐level rise. Ice‐shelf melt variability is controlled by the speed of a shelf‐break undercurrent which transports CDW onto the continental shelf.
