Flow and retreat of the Late Quaternary Pine Island-Thwaites palaeo-ice stream, West Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Multibeam swath bathymetry and sub-bottom profiler data are used to establish constraints on the flow and retreat history of a major palaeo-ice stream that carried the combined discharge from the parts of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet now occupied by the ...

Multiparametric Bioresorbable Sensor for Doxorubicin Detection via Molecularly Imprinted Synthetic Receptors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biodegradable molecularly imprinted polymer porous silica sensor enables dual optical readout of doxorubicin via fluorescence and effective optical thickness shifts. The combined transduction mechanisms provide enhanced reliability and quantitative accuracy over clinically relevant concentrations, representing a step toward transient implantable ...

Last deglaciation of northern continental Europe

open access: yesCuadernos de Investigación Geográfica, 2015
Correlation of main ice sheet limits in northern continental Europe during Late Weichselian is presented, based on available data concerning occurrence of ice-marginal formations and their radiometric dating.

Insights on the formation of longitudinal surface structures on ice sheets from analysis of their spacing, spatial distribution and relationship to ice thickness and flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Longitudinal surface structures (LSSs) are prevalent upon the ice streams, ice shelves and outlet glaciers of ice sheets. These features inform our understanding of past and present ice sheet behavior. However, consensus regarding their genesis has not

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Grounding line stability in a regime of low driving and basal stresses

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2019
The dynamics of a marine ice sheet's grounding lines determine the rate of ice discharge from the grounded part of ice sheet into surrounding oceans. In many locations in West Antarctica ice flows into ice shelves through ice streams experiencing low ...

Comparing numerical ice-sheet model output with radio-echo sounding measurements in the Weddell Sea sector of West Antarctica

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2020
Numerical ice-sheet models are commonly matched to surface ice velocities from InSAR measurements by modifying basal drag, allowing the flow and form of the ice sheet to be simulated. Geophysical measurements of the bed are rarely used to examine if this

Rational Design of Broad‐Spectrum Anti‐Enteroviral Molecular Glues Targeting Enteroviral RNAi Suppressors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By leveraging this homodimerization mechanism, molecular glues were rationally designed to induce dysfunctional 3A dimerization, thereby restoring antiviral RNAi. The optimal molecular glue, VTP‐32, demonstrated potent and pan‐enterovirus (groups A, B, D) antiviral effects.

Ice stream motion facilitated by a shallow-deforming and accreting bed

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Ice streams are fundamental to ice sheet dynamics, but the mechanisms controlling their flow remain elusive. Here, the authors perform macro- and microscale analyses of mega-scale glacial lineations, which indicate a continuously accreting, shallow ...

Electrostatic Self‐Assembly Induced Nest‐Like MXene Networks on Fabric for Ultra‐Broadband Flexible Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, an electrostatically self‐assembled WPU‐MXene@FC flexible fabric constructs a “nest‐like” structure on fibers, building construct MXene multiple loss paths, achieving ultra‐wideband absorption of 25.3–1200 GHz in a thickness of 1.8 mm, while also exhibiting superhydrophobicity, acid and alkali resistance, and bending resistance ...
