Gums make IL-23, no professionals needed
ImmunityIL-23 activates pathogenic Th17 cells to drive inflammatory disease at barrier surfaces. Kim et al. now identify oral epithelial cells as the critical producers of IL-23 in human and mouse periodontitis, linking microbial dysbiosis to non-hematopoietic regulation of IL-17-associated inflammation.

Targeting IL-23 in autoimmunity.
Current opinion in investigational drugs (London, England : 2000), 2005Dysregulated cell-mediated immune responses may lead to chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders. The recent discovery of the dimeric interleukin (IL)-12-related cytokine IL-23 now adds to our understanding of the fine-tuning of cellular immunity.

Dual Inhibition of IL-12/IL-23 and Selective Inhibition of IL-23 in Psoriasis
2018The etiology of psoriasis is unknown, although it is generally believed to be a complex T cell-mediated inflammatory disease with a genetic basis [1, 2]. CD4+ T helper cells, called T helper (Th) 17 cells, are important in the pathogenesis of psoriasis [2–5].
