IL-17 Promotes Angiogenic Factors IL-6, IL-8, and Vegf Production via Stat1 in Lung Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Inflammation and angiogenesis are two hallmarks of carcinoma. The proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-17 (IL-17) facilitates angiogenesis in lung cancer; however, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood.

Prognostic role of serum cytokines level in non-small cell lung cancer patients with anti-PD-1 and chemotherapy combined treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundChemotherapy combined with PD-1 inhibitor treatment has revolutionized the standard of care for patients with NSCLC. However, the benefit is not universal, highlighting the need for precise prediction factors.

Suppression of Sirtuin-1 Increases IL-6 Expression by Activation of the Akt Pathway During Allergic Asthma

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2017
Background/Aims: A growing number of studies have demonstrated that the activity and expression level of sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) are decreased in asthma patients; however, the mechanisms underlying decreased SIRT1 expression and function are still not ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

IGF-1 and PDGF-bb suppress IL-1β-induced cartilage degradation through down-regulation of NF-κB signaling: involvement of Src/PI-3K/AKT pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a key role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA). Growth factors (GFs) capable of antagonizing the catabolic actions of cytokines may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of OA.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Protective Effects of Microrna-22 Against Endothelial Cell Injury by Targeting NLRP3 Through Suppression of the Inflammasome Signaling Pathway in a Rat Model of Coronary Heart Disease

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2017
Background/Aims: This study aimed to identify the role of microRNA-22 (miR-22) in endothelial cell (EC) injury in coronary heart disease (CHD) by targeting NLRP3 through the inflammasome signaling pathway.

Sensitization of dural afferents underlies migraine-related behavior following meningeal application of interleukin-6 (IL-6)

open access: yes, 2012
Background Migraine headache is one of the most common neurological disorders, but the pathophysiology contributing to migraine is poorly understood.
