The effects of anti-IL-6 therapy in advanced ovarian cancer

open access: yes, 2010
PhDIL-6 is a pleiotropic cytokine that has a significant role in inflammatory processes. In relation to ovarian cancer biology there is emerging evidence that it mediates processes relating to tumour growth, invasion, angiogenesis and chemo-resistance ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

IL-6 Inhibits Starvation-induced Autophagy via the STAT3/Bcl-2 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
IL-6, a pleiotropic cytokine, has been investigated for its role in regulating autophagy. Yet, its mechanism of action remains unclear. Here, we show that IL-6 exerted anti-autophagic effects on U937 cells through the STAT3 signaling pathway in vitro ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Genipin Inhibits IL-1ß-Induced CCL20 and IL-6 Production from Human Periodontal Ligament Cells

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Background/Aims: Genipin, the aglycon of geniposide found in gardenia fruit has long been considered for treatment of various diseases in traditional oriental medicine. Genipin has been used as a blue colorant in food industry.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Inhibition of IL-6 family cytokines by SOCS3

open access: yesSeminars in Immunology, 2014
IL-6 a multi-functional cytokine with important effects in both inflammation and haematopoiesis. SOCS3 is the primary inhibitor of IL-6 signalling, interacting with gp130, the common shared chain of the IL-6 family of cytokines, and JAK1, JAK2 and TYK2 ...

Combining the receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor AEE788 and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor RAD001 strongly inhibits adhesion and growth of renal cell carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Treatment options for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are limited due to resistance to chemo- and radiotherapy. The development of small-molecule multikinase inhibitors have now opened novel treatment options.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
