Available (Ileal Digestible Reactive) Lysine in Selected Pet Foods
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007A recently developed assay for determining available lysine (true ileal digestible reactive lysine) in foods and feedstuffs was applied to 20 commercially available cat foods. Semisynthetic diets, containing cat food as the sole protein source, were prepared. Titanium dioxide was included as an indigestible marker.

1. The apparent and true amino acid digestibilities in sorghum, wheat, soyabean meal, meat-and-bone meal, fish meal and blood meal for growing meat chickens were determined using an assay based on the collection of digesta from the terminal ileum and comparison was made with digestibility values determined using an excreta-based assay. 2. Five-week-old

Cathepsin L mediates intracellular ileal digestion of gastric intrinsic factor
American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1995Although acidic proteases of lysosomal origin are implicated in the degradation of intrinsic factor (IF) during cobalamin (cbl) transport across enterocytes and proximal renal tubule cell lines, the enzyme(s) involved in this process is not known. Recombinant (baculovirus-produced) rat 125I-labeled IF (125I-rIF), 43 kDa, added in vivo to the lumen of ...

Three milk substitute diets (control, SWP76 and SWP36) were given to ileo-caecal cannulated preruminant calves. In these diets, skim milk powder was either the only protein source or totally or partially (48%) replaced by a mixture of solubilized wheat protein concentrate (SWP) and whey powder (76% and 24%; crude protein basis), respectively.

[Measurement of ileal protein digestibility using 15N-labeled rats].
Archiv fur Tierernahrung, 1984After 15N-labelling over 7 days male albino rats (92-95 g live weight) received either a wheat or whole egg diet (10 animals each) for 4 days. On the following day of the experiment 5 animals each continued to receive their diets as their morning meal (group 1 whole egg, group 3 wheat) and 5 animals each after the previous feeding of a wheat diet ...
