Digestion of wheat protein in the preruminant calf: ileal digestibility and blood concentrations of nutrients

Animal Feed Science and Technology, 1998
Three milk substitute diets (control, SWP76 and SWP36) were given to ileo-caecal cannulated preruminant calves. In these diets, skim milk powder was either the only protein source or totally or partially (48%) replaced by a mixture of solubilized wheat protein concentrate (SWP) and whey powder (76% and 24%; crude protein basis), respectively.

Sampling of digestive contents by ileal cannulation in the rabbit

Animal Science, 1988
ABSTRACTA technique is described for the collection of digestive contents with a glass T-shaped ileal cannula, in rabbits fed ad libitum. Repeated samples of ileal contents were easily obtained by gravity from conscious animals lying in a hammock for 1 h, twice a week, over a period of 2 months.

Ileal Digestibility and Urinary Excretion of D-Xylose and L-Arabinose in Ileostomized Adult Roosters

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1991
An experiment with ileostomized adult roosters was conducted to determine the ileal digestibility and urinary excretion of D-xylose and L-arabinose. As a reference, D-glucose was included in the experiment. The sugars were tested at graded dietary levels

Comparison of the apparent ileal calcium digestibility of limestone in broilers and layers

British Poultry Science, 2021
1. The apparent ileal calcium (Ca) digestibility coefficients of two limestone sources in growing broilers and layers were determined in two separate experiments.2. In each experiment, two maize-based diets were developed with two limestone sources (A, experiment 1 and B, experiment 2) to contain either 8.0 g/kg Ca for broilers or 40 g/kg Ca for layers.

Effect of time post-surgery on the measurement of ileal digestibility in ileal rectal anastomosed pigs.

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Science, 1998
The measurement of ileal digestibility of amino acids is recognized to be a valid tool for the estimation of availability of amino acids. One of the techniques used to obtain this measure - ileal rectal anastomosis - has, however, received a lot of criticism since it has been claimed that the removal of the colon from the active ...

Requirement of true ileal digestible threonine of growing and finishing pigs

Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, 2004
SummaryNinety‐six crossbred barrows and gilts were used to investigate the optimum supply of true ileal digestible threonine for growing (approximately 35–65 kg body weight) and finishing (approximately 65–110 kg body weight) pigs. For this purpose, according to a bifactorial arrangement in the grower as well as in the finisher phase four dietary ...

Effect of level of dietary neutral detergent fiber on ileal apparent digestibility and ileal nitrogen losses in pigs

Journal of Animal Science, 1994
A study was conducted with 20 barrows (average BW 25 kg) to determine the effect of various levels of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) in the diet on the apparent ileal nutrient digestibility and ileal diaminopimelic acid (DAPA) content, and consequently on the amount of ileal endogenous nitrogen. The pigs were fitted with a post-valvular T-cecal cannula.

Influence of forage inclusion in the diet on ileal and total tract digestibility

Journal of Animal Science, 2012
The present investigation aimed to study the ileal and total tract digestibility of 3 forages (clover-grass, clover-grass silage, and field pea (Pisum sativum)-barley (Hordeum vulgare) silage) supplemented to a basal diet. A total of 24 pigs, adapted to eating forages by supplementing a basal feed with clover-grass silage from weaning, were fitted with

Available (Ileal Digestible Reactive) Lysine in Selected Pet Foods

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007
A recently developed assay for determining available lysine (true ileal digestible reactive lysine) in foods and feedstuffs was applied to 20 commercially available cat foods. Semisynthetic diets, containing cat food as the sole protein source, were prepared. Titanium dioxide was included as an indigestible marker.

Standardized ileal digestibility and digestible indispensable amino acid score of porcine and bovine hydrolyzates in pigs

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2017
AbstractBACKGROUNDThe use of protein hydrolyzates in food and feed ingredients is a growing area of interest. The present study was conducted aiming to determine the standardized ileal digestibility (SID) and to evaluate protein quality of porcine and bovine hydrolyzates.
