Conformational Changes in the Metallo-β-lactamase ImiS During the Catalytic Reaction: An EPR Spectrokinetic Study of Co(II)-Spin Label Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Metallo-β-lactamases are responsible for conferring antibiotic resistance on certain pathogenic bacteria. In consequence, the search for inhibitors that may be useful in combating antibiotic resistance has fueled much study of the active sites of these ...

Decision fatigue in hospital medicine: A retrospective exploratory evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background “Decision fatigue” (DF) is the deterioration in decision‐making ability stemming from repeated decision making. Objective Explore DF over the clinical workblock and across hospitalist and work characteristics. Methods Patients seen by hospitalists at two hospitals in January and February 2022 were retrospectively evaluated for ...

Surgical Management of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Tanzanian University Teaching Hospital Experience. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
\ud \ud Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) pose a therapeutic challenge to surgeons, especially in developing countries where health care resources are limited and the vast majority of patients present to health facilities late with advanced foot ulcers.

Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles From Spirulina platensis: Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Evaluation With Molecular Docking Studies

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Algal‐extract‐derived ZnO nanoparticles show shape anisotropy and are bio capped by phytochemicals. These green‐synthesized NPs strongly inhibit S. aureus and K. pneumoniae biofilms. Molecular docking suggests stable binding of surface biomolecules to microbial targets, highlighting synergistic antibacterial mechanisms.

Utility of the ceftazidime-imipenem antagonism test (CIAT) to detect and confirm the presence of inducible AmpC beta-lactamases among enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
Detection of AmpC beta-lactamase production by enterobacteria has been problematic. Contrary to ESBLs, no specific guidelines are available for detection and confirmation of AmpC production by clinical relevant microorganisms.

Imipenem resistance of Pseudomonas in pneumonia: a systematic literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Pneumonia, and particularly nosocomial (NP) and ventilator-associated pneumonias (VAP), results in high morbidity and costs. NPs in particular are likely to be caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), ~20% of which in observational studies are ...

Multiplex visual nucleic acid detection via isothermal cascaded transcription of fluorescent RNA aptamers

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
(1) Existing multiplex nucleic acid detection struggles to combine high sensitivity, visual readout, and instrument‐free use, which is vital for rapid infection and antibiotic resistance diagnosis. (2) We developed MAGIC, integrating isothermal cascaded amplification and fluorescent RNA aptamer transcription, achieving 10 aM sensitivity, 100% accuracy ...

Distributed lags time series analysis versus linear correlation analysis (Pearson's r) in identifying the relationship between antipseudomonal antibiotic consumption and the susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates in a single Intensive Care Unit of a tertiary hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The relationship between antibiotic consumption and selection of resistant strains has been studied mainly by employing conventional statistical methods.

Epicutaneous and Drug Provocation Testing in Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions: A 20‐Year Single‐Centre Experience

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
This study provides reassuring evidence in favour of early skin testing in patients with SCARs, argues against the necessity of a 6‐month delay, and underscores the pivotal role of oral provocation tests in the safe reintroduction of essential therapies. ABSTRACT Background Identifying and discontinuing the offending drug(s) in severe cutaneous adverse

Ciprofloxacin and Imipenem Resistance in Bathing Waters—Preliminary Studies of Great Rudnickie Lake

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The phenomenon of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, the emission and spread of these bacteria, and the genes that determine antibiotic resistance in the environment are now a major health security concern.
