Immunomodulatory effects of photodynamic therapy for skin cancer: Potential strategies to improve treatment efficacy and tolerability

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a nonscarring treatment modality that is widely used for skin cancers and early squamous precursor lesions. PDT was previously thought to work primarily by killing cancer cells directly (via apoptosis or necrosis). However, more recent work indicates that a significant mechanism for PDT is the stimulation of anti‐cancer ...

In vivo and in vitro effect of imipramine and fluoxetine on Na+,K+-ATPase activity in synaptic plasma membranes from the cerebral cortex of rats

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2001
The effects of in vivo chronic treatment and in vitro addition of imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant, or fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, on the cortical membrane-bound Na+,K+-ATPase activity were studied.

Possible involvement of keratinocyte‐derived microvesicle particles in human photosensitivity disorders

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
In this model, ROS generated by UVB result in PAFR agonists acting upon the PAFR resulting in MVP generation release via the enzyme aSMase. In photosensitivity, there are increased ROS, resulting in augmented PAF agonists and increased MVP release. This process can be blocked by aSMase inhibitors.

Short-Course Treatment With Imipramine Entrapped in Squalene Liposomes Results in Sterile Cure of Experimental Visceral Leishmaniasis Induced by Antimony Resistant Leishmania donovani With Increased Efficacy

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
Previously we have shown that long term oral treatment of tricyclic-antidepressant-drug, imipramine, against experimental visceral leishmaniasis, results in clearance of organ parasites, regardless of input infection, either with antimony-sensitive (SbS)

Serum Amyloid β Oligomer May Predict Treatment Response in Middle‐Aged and Late‐Life Patients With Depression

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports, Volume 46, Issue 2, June 2026.
After 4 weeks of antidepressant treatment, patients with serum amyloid β oligomers showed a significantly lower treatment response compared with those without Aβ oligomers among middle‐aged and late‐life patients with major depressive disorder. ABSTRACT Aim Late‐life patients with depression are reportedly less responsive to antidepressant treatment ...

Antiplasmodial Activity and Pharmacokinetic Profiling of Cryptolepine and 2,7‐Dibromocryptolepine With a View to Informing the Design of Novel Antimalarial Cryptolepine Analogues

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 87, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The roots of the climbing shrub Cryptolepis sanguinolenta are traditionally used in West Africa for the treatment of malaria. The principal constituent, cryptolepine (1), has been shown to have antimalarial activity but there are concerns regarding its toxicity on account of its DNA‐intercalating property.

Epigenetic mechanisms and therapeutic innovations in chronic pain‐associated neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 7, Page 1313-1340, April 2026.
Abstract Chronic pain, marked by nociceptive sensitization and maladaptive neuroplasticity, affects 30% of the global population with escalating socioeconomic burdens. Epidemiological data show a 2‐3‐fold increase in neuropsychiatric co‐morbidities among individuals with chronic pain, where epigenetic dysregulation serves as a key mechanism linking ...
