Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

The Great Recession and Immune Function [PDF]

open access: yesRSF: The Russell Sage Foundation Journal of the Social Sciences, 2018
The Great Recession precipitated unprecedented home foreclosures increases, but documentation of related neighborhood changes and population health is scant. Using the Detroit Neighborhood Health Study (N = 277), we examined associations between neighborhood-level recession indicators and thymic function, a life course immunological health indicator ...

Effects of rare earth-chitosan chelate on growth performance, antioxidative and immune function in broilers

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2022
This research aims to study the effects of rare earth-chitosan chelates (RECC) on growth performance, immunity and antioxidant function in broilers. A total of 192 one-day-old mixed-sex Arbour Acres (AA) broilers were allotted into 4 treatment groups ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Growth, carcase characteristics, meat quality, nutrient digestibility and immune function of broilers fed with enzymatically treated or raw dandelion (taraxacum mongolicum hand.-mazz.)

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2022
This study aims at evaluating the effects of enzymatically treated or raw dandelion (Taraxacum mongolicum Hand.-Mazz.) on growth performance, carcase characteristics, meat quality, apparent nutrient digestibility, and immunity of Arbour Acres broilers ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Effects of Ozone on Immune Function [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1995
A review of the literature reveals that ozone (O{sub 3}) exposure can either suppress or enhance immune responsiveness. These disparate effects elicited by O{sub 3} exposure depend, in large part, on the experimental design used, the immune parameters examined as well as the animal species studied. Despite the apparent contradictions, a general pattern

Machine learning-based proteomics profiling of ALS identifies downregulation of RPS29 that maintains protein homeostasis and STMN2 level

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating motor neuron disease. The molecular understanding of ALS is hampered by the lack of experimental models recapitulating disease heterogeneity and analytical framework integrating multi-omics datasets ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
