Immune Imprinting Identified in Phage-Display Antibody Libraries Derived from Early Wild-Type and Late Omicron COVID-19 Convalescents

open access: yesViruses
The rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2, particularly the emergence of Omicron subvariants, has significantly reduced the efficacy of existing vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.

DNA Methylation and Transcriptomic Profiles of Wilms Tumour Reveal New Deregulated Genes and Epigenetic Processes Relevant for Tumour Stratification and Management

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wilms Tumour (WT), the most common kidney cancer in children, presents features of altered kidney development and frequently exhibits molecular alterations at the 11p15.5 imprinted locus, affecting the IGF2 and H19 genes, which contribute to tumour growth and predisposition.

Linking S. aureus Immune Evasion Mechanisms to Staphylococcal Vaccine Failures

open access: yesAntibiotics
Vaccination arguably remains the only long-term strategy to limit the spread of S. aureus infections and its related antibiotic resistance. To date, however, all staphylococcal vaccines tested in clinical trials have failed.

Exposure–Recovery Approach for Hepatic Toxicity Analysis of Pyrethroid Lambda‐Cyhalothrin: Histopathological, Histochemical, and Biochemical Responses in Oreochromis niloticus

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lambda‐cyhalothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide widely used in agriculture, but its potential to contaminate aquatic ecosystems and exert high toxicity on fish at low concentrations raises ecotoxicological concerns. While standard histopathological and biochemical assessments are common, the novel integration of pigment‐based ...

Noncanonical Nucleotides in the Genome Around the Maternal‐Zygotic Transition

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
In this paper, Kazzazi et al. provide a comprehensive review of the dynamics of nonconventional nucleotides in the genome during early developmental stages, hypothesizing a potential role for these nucleotides in the activation of the zygotic genome. ABSTRACT From the very moment of fertilization and throughout development, the cells of animal embryos ...

Proteomic signals are not equal clinical phenotypes: redefining evidence standards in arbovirus–SARS-CoV-2 cross-reactivity

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
The interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and dengue virus represents a biologically plausible yet clinically unresolved challenge in regions where both pathogens co-circulate.

Exclusive enteral nutrition containing transforming growth factor‐β improves intestinal barrier function in a colitis mouse model

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) is the first‐line treatment for pediatric Crohn's disease, but its mechanisms of action remain poorly understood. Our aim was to identify the mechanisms that could explain the anti‐inflammatory effects of EEN, studying the nutritional composition and transforming growth factor‐β (TGF‐β) effects, in ...

Bivalent mRNA booster encoding virus-like particles elicits potent polyclass receptor-binding domain antibodies in pre-vaccinated mice

open access: yeseLife
mRNA vaccines emerged as a leading vaccine technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, their sustained protective efficacies were limited by relatively short-lived antibody responses and the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, necessitating frequent ...

Early‐life adverse events and risk of inflammatory bowel disease: A Scandinavian birth cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives The experience of childhood stressful or adverse life events is believed to imprint on immunological pathways and, therefore, might have lasting effects on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) development. This study aimed to examine the association between experiences of early‐life adverse events and later IBD risk. Methods We followed

Assessing evidence of immune imprinting in serological patterns of influenza immune response

open access: yes
The subtype of the first influenza infection shapes infection risk, illness and mortality associated with subsequent infection subtypes, as well as vaccine efficacy. This phenomenon, termed ‘immune imprinting’, may result from immune recognition rooted in structural similarity of the hemagglutinin protein within subtypes of influenza viruses.
