Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

The Antarctic Wintering Alters the Properties of Human Plasma Cell-Free DNA

open access: yesBiochemistry Research International
Extracellular DNA of blood plasma (cell-free DNA, cfDNA) may potentially indicate a total level of apoptosis and mediate the immune response to stress induced by extreme environmental conditions, such as Antarctic wintering.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Chaperone-mediated MHC-I peptide exchange in antigen presentation

open access: yesIUCrJ
This work focuses on molecules that are encoded by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and that bind self-, foreign- or tumor-derived peptides and display these at the cell surface for recognition by receptors on T lymphocytes (T cell receptors ...

Glycosylation and the Immune System.

open access: yesTrends in Glycoscience and Glycotechnology, 1999

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Brd4 expression in CD4 T cells and in microglia promotes neuroinflammation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation
Microglia are resident innate immune cells in the central nervous system (CNS) that provides anti-microbial protection but also promote neuroinflammation.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

When natural mutants do not fit our expectations: the intriguing case of patients with XRCC4 mutations revealed by whole‐exome sequencing

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2015
Mutations in the XRCC4 gene have been recently identified through whole‐exome sequencing (WES). While the overall clinical presentation of the patients (severe short stature, microcephaly, gonadal failure) generally conforms with what is expected for the
