Markers of the Variable and Constant Region of Human Lambda Immunoglobulin Chains [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1970
52 human lambda immunoglobulin chains could be divided into two antigenic subtypes, St(+) and St(–).St(+) type chains represent a homogeneous structural group differing from St(−) type proteins by characteristic subclass specific positions in the N‐terminal sequence of amino acids. St(+) proteins follow the “Ha” type sequence.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Comparative genomic analysis and evolution of the T cell receptor loci in the opossum Monodelphis domestica

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2008
Background All jawed-vertebrates have four T cell receptor (TCR) chains: alpha (TRA), beta (TRB), gamma (TRG) and delta (TRD). Marsupials appear unique by having an additional TCR: mu (TRM).

Ku70 Is Required for Late B Cell Development and Immunoglobulin Heavy Chain Class Switching [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain (HC) class switch recombination (CSR) is a late B cell process that involves intrachromosomal DNA rearrangement.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Acquired potential N-glycosylation sites within the tumor-specific immunoglobulin heavy chains of B-cell malignancies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background and Objectives. Among B-cell malignancies, follicular lymphomas (FL) more frequently show acquired, potential N-glycosylation sites (AGS) within tumor-specific immunoglobulin.

A Haystack Heuristic for Autoimmune Disease Biomarker Discovery Using Next-Gen Immune Repertoire Sequencing Data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Large-scale DNA sequencing of immunological repertoires offers an opportunity for the discovery of novel biomarkers for autoimmune disease. Available bioinformatics techniques however, are not adequately suited for elucidating possible biomarker ...

An experimental approach to enumerate the genes coding for immunoglobulin variable-regions

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1981
Critical to our understanding of the immune system diversity is the determination of the number of germ line V genes. The total number of V genes is given by the product: number of subgroups x number of germ line genes per subgroup. Studies of kappa chains and of embryonic DNA indicate 5-10 V genes per subgroup.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...
