Passive Oral Immunization by Egg Yolk Immunoglobulin (IgY) to Vibrio cholerae Effectively Prevents Cholera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In an attempt to prepare egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) to treat and prevent cholera, hens were immunized by a mixture of heat- or formalin-killed Vibrio cholerae O1 and O139 organisms, or by the recombinant cholera toxin B subunit (CTB).

A SIMPLE AND ECONOMICAL PROCEDURE FOR THE PURIFICATION OF IMMUNOGLOBULIN Y FROM EGG YOLK BY T-GEL CHROMATOGRAPHY

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2000
The use of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) instead of polyclonal antibodies prepared in mammals has been reported recently. These antibodies are found to have better properties in terms of specificity and ease of large scale production.

Determination of Immunoglobulin Y Concentration in Yolk Extract Prepared by Water Dilution Method: Comparisons among Three Strains of Chickens

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2008
In avian species, immunoglobulin Y (IgY) is found abundantly in egg yolk as well as in blood. Although the concentration of IgY in yolk has been previously reported by many investigators, the reported IgY concentrations have varied from 1 to 25mg/g yolk.

Characterization of [18F]SMBT‐1 binding substrates in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders: A postmortem biochemical and immunohistochemical study

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Neuroimaging studies report associations of amyloid beta (Aβ) positron emission tomography (PET) with [18F](S)‐(2‐methylpyrid‐5‐yl)‐6‐[(3‐fluoro‐2‐hydroxy)propoxy]quinoline ([18F]SMBT‐1), a novel reactive astrogliosis surrogate radiotracer with high affinity for monoamine oxidase B (MAO‐B) in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 26, 10 July 2026.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Development of IgY-Based Passive Immunization Against Tilapia Lake Virus: Development and In Vitro Neutralization Assays

open access: yesViruses
Tilapia lake virus (TiLV) poses a major threat to global tilapia aquaculture and contributes to significant economic losses due to the absence of effective vaccines and treatments. Given the high mortality rates and severe pathological effects of TiLV on

Complement C3 mediates adolescent social isolation‐induced hippocampal synaptic deficits and sex‐specific emotional dysfunction

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 4, Issue 4, July 2026.
Adolescent social isolation disrupts hippocampal function and exacerbates emotional symptoms, with sex‐specific patterns, as shown by human studies. In mice, social isolation decreased hippocampal synaptic density and calcium signaling, upregulated complement proteins, and activated complement‐mediated microglial synaptic phagocytosis.

Effects of Forced Molting on the IgY Concentration in Egg Yolk of Chickens

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2001
Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) is transferred passively from maternal circulation to the yolk. The aim of this study was to determine whether the concentration of yolk IgY is affected by forced molting in hens.

Birds of prey and the city: variation in immunity and parasites exposure along an urbanization gradient

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 4, July 2026.
Pathogens are major ecological and evolutionary forces, and the immune system is central to coping with these challenges. Environmental variation, including urbanisation, can alter both pathogen exposure and immune function, making it important to understand how responses vary across habitats.

Purifikasi Dan Karakterisasi Imunoglobulin Y (IgY) Pada Telur Ayam Kampung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The objective of this research was to purified and characterized yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) from Indonesian native chicken eggs. Fourty eggs were collected from Cibanteng, Ciampea, Cinangneng, and Darmaga. IgY from egg yolk were puri$ed with Water Soluble
