Altered Immunologic Activity in Sarcoidosis

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1966
Excerpt The etiology and pathogenesis of sarcoidosis is unknown. Past attempts to demonstrate specific etiologic agents have met with little success.

Immunologic mechanisms of antitumor activity

Seminars in Oncology, 2002
The growth and metastatic spread of tumors, to a large extent, depends on their capacity to evade host immune surveillance and overcome host defenses. All tumors express antigens that are recognized to a variable extent by the immune system, but in many cases an inadequate immune response is elicited because of partial antigen masking or ineffective ...

Immunological Activities Associated with Milk

2002
Milk contains a multitude of components that can, or may, provide immune protection to the suckling offspring and that also may promote development of neonatal immune competence. In addition, these specialized factors are essential for the protection of the mammary gland, the offspring's food source, from pathogen colonization and lactation failure ...

A rapid immunological assay of endonuclease activity

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1970
Abstract Denatured T4 DNA mixed with specific antibody forms a complex which is retained by a glass fiber filter. The retention of this complex is dependent on the size of the DNA: single-stranded fragments with a molecular weight greater than 106 are retained, whereas fragments with a molecular weight of less than 2 · 104 are not retained.

Immunology Conformation and Biological Activity of Insulin

Diabetes, 1969
Evidence is presented that insulin antibodies produced by strain 2 guinea pigs bind preferentially to antigenic determinants related to the N-terminal B chain, N-terminal A chain, and lysine at position B-29. Strain 13 antibodies appear to bind preferentially to antigenic determinants involving the C-terminal A and C-terminal B chains.

Immunological activities of multiprenylacetyl derivatives of muramyldipeptides

Vaccine, 1988
The immunological properties of six kinds of multiprenylacetic acids and six kinds of multiprenylacetyl muramyldipeptide (MDP) derivatives were examined by using experimental models in mice and guinea-pigs. All the multiprenylacetyl MDP derivatives, particularly TMD-232, showed potent adjuvant activity on the circulating antibody formation against ...

Physiological and Immunological Activity

2019
Half a century ago, immunology was almost synonymous with infectious diseases and microbiology. The immune system contains various immunological cells and neurotransmitters. These cells synthesize and secrete in response to foreign agents, stress, an autoimmune reaction, or mechanical injury.

Effect of haptoglobin on immunological activity of hemoglobin

Immunochemistry, 1974
Abstract The extent to which antigenic determinants of hemoglobin are quantitatively or qualitatively modified on complex formation with haptoglobinhas has been examined. From the data on Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion, it has been apparent that the antigenic determinants of hemoglobin are not modified nor masked by complex formation with human ...
