Immunometabolism in the pathogenesis of vitiligo

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Vitiligo is a common depigmenting skin disorder characterized by the selective loss of melanocytes. Autoimmunity, genetic, environmental, and biochemical etiology have been proposed in vitiligo pathogenesis. However, the exact molecular mechanisms of vitiligo development and progression are unclear, particularly for immunometabolism.

Immunometabolism and autoimmunity

Current Opinion in Immunology, 2020
Over the last few years, immune cell metabolism has become one of the most stimulating areas of investigation in the field of immunology. Compelling evidence has revealed that metabolic pathways are closely associated to cell functions and immune cells adopt defined metabolic programs to sustain their activity and respond to micro-environmental demands.

Immunometabolism in the pathogenesis of asthma

Immunology, 2023
AbstractBronchial asthma is a heterogeneous disease characterised by chronic airway inflammation. A variety of immune cells such as eosinophils, mast cells, T lymphocytes, neutrophils and airway epithelial cells are involved in the airway inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness in asthma pathogenesis, resulting in extensive and variable reversible ...

Metabolomics, Lipidomics, and Immunometabolism

2021
Metabolomics, lipidomics, and the study of cellular metabolism are gaining increasing interest particularly in the field of immunology, since the activation and effector functions of immune cells are profoundly controlled by changes in cellular metabolic asset.

Immunometabolism and autoimmunity

Immunology & Cell Biology, 2016
A continuous increase in the prevalence of autoimmune diseases is to be expected in the aging societies worldwide. Autoimmune disorders not only cause severe disability and chronic pain, but also lead to considerable socio‐economic costs. Given that the current treatment options are not curative, have substantial side effects and a high percentage of ...

Immunometabolism the CyTOF way

Immunity, 2021
In this issue of Immunity, Levine et al. report a CyTOF-based approach for the analyses of CD8+ T cells metabolic changes at the single-cell level. This approach identified a transition state early in T cell activation that is characterized by high glycolytic and oxidative activity, providing new insight into the metabolic changes that underlie the ...

Immunometabolism of infections

Nature Reviews Immunology, 2019
Physiological studies of infection biology revealed decades ago that there is an intimate relationship between the immune system and the host metabolic system. These interactions begin soon after pathogen detection and continue to evolve over the course of the infection.
