Immunomodulation of the Prostate Tumor Microenvironment Following Inorganic Arsenic Exposure
ABSTRACT The tumor microenvironment (TME) influences prostate cancer (PCa) progression through stromal and immune interactions. Adipose‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) modulate immune tone, while inorganic arsenic (iAs), a widespread toxicant, is linked to immune suppression and carcinogenesis.

As the armamentarium for sedation in the critically ill expands, opportunities will develop to modulate the immune responses of patients by way of the direct immune and neural-immune interactions of the sedatives. Control of autonomic activity through the use of appropriate sedation may be critical in this matter.

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2002
The fetus and the neonate are particularly vulnerable to injury caused directly by immunologic mechanisms or inflicted by infectious agents that take advantage of their relatively immature and inexperienced immune system. With increasing survival of high-risk neonates in the surfactant era, prevention/treatment of sepsis and chronic lung disease (CLD ...

The future role of the immunomodulators in medical practice is yet to be defined. The key question is whether these new substances will bring remarkable progress in transplantation or in the treatment of such conditions as cancer, AIDS, and autoimmune diseases, or whether they will be of only minor adjunctive importance. As background to the discussion
