Immunomodulatory Activity of Curcumin

Immunological Investigations, 1999
Curcumin, an active ingredient present in Curcuma longa, was analysed for the immunomodulatory activity in Balb/c mice. Curcumin administration was found to increase the total WRC count (15,290) significantly on the 12th day Group of animals treated with vehicle alone showed results similar to that of normal animal (10,130 on 12th day).

Potential immunomodulatory activity of phenylphosphonothioates

International Journal of Immunopharmacology, 1989
In the course of immunotoxicological studies of several organophosphorous compounds, it was noted that some phenylphosphonothioates enhanced the activation of rat splenocytes by concanavalin A. In the present study some of these compounds were compared to the well-characterized immunomodulatory thiol, 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME).

Immunomodulatory and therapeutic activity of curcumin

International Immunopharmacology, 2011
Inflammation is a disease of vigorous uncontrolled activated immune responses. Overwhelming reports have suggested that the modulation of immune responses by curcumin plays a dominant role in the treatment of inflammation and metabolic diseases. Observations from both in-vitro and in-vivo studies have provided strong evidence towards the therapeutic ...

The Immunomodulatory Effects of Physical Activity

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2016
An individual's level of physical activity is one of a set of lifestyle and behavioral factors that can affect immune function and health. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current knowledge in this research field and to review the recent developments in exercise immunology. Most studies show that regular exercise training increases ...

Immunomodulatory activity of Withania somnifera

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2000
Administration of an extract from the powdered root of the plant Withania somnifera was found to stimulate immunological activity in Babl/c mice. Treatment with five doses of Withania root extract (20 mg/dose/animal; i.p.) was found to enhance the total WBC count (17125 cells/mm(3)) on 10th day. Bone marrow cellularity (27x10(6) cells/femur) as well as

Immunomodulatory Activities of Fluoroquinolones

Infection, 2005
A review of published data on the in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo and clinical effects of fluoroquinolones on the synthesis of cytokines is provided. Fluoroquinolones (FQs) were found to affect both cellular and humoral immunity. In general, FQs exert their modulating effects only when used together with a co-stimulant.

Immunomodulatory Activity of VEGF in Cancer

2017
The ability of tumor cells to escape tumor immunosurveillance contributes to cancer development. Factors produced in the tumor microenvironment create "tolerizing" conditions and thereby help the tumor to evade antitumoral immune responses. VEGF-A, already known for its major role in tumor vessel growth (neoangiogenesis), was recently identified as a ...

Immunomodulatory and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Statins

Endocrine, Metabolic & Immune Disorders - Drug Targets, 2009
The statins are a group of inhibitors of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase that are used extensively in medical practice because of their ability to reduce cardiovascular mortality and stroke. Although this protective activity was initially ascribed to the inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, clinical trials and basic ...

Immunomodulatory activity of small peptides

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1990
The activity of the immune system can be modulated by a wide variety of natural and synthetic peptides. Here, Vassil St Georgiev summarizes the actions of some of the immunostimulatory and immunosuppressant small peptides that have shown most promise as therapeutic agents.
