Four‐dimensional immuno‐mechanobiomaterials: Dynamic material cues that program host response to prevent fibrosis and enable regeneration

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Dynamic immuno‐mechanobiomaterials with time‐programmed mechanical adaptation orchestrate host responses through precise mechanotransduction and immune‐stromal regulation. These adaptive biomaterials minimize mechanical mismatch, attenuate the forign dy response and fibrosis, promote angiogenesis and controlled extracellular matrix remodeling, and ...

Identifying regulatory muscle processes in infantile and adult Pompe patients using a multi‐omic and morphological approach

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
The study highlights differences in the regulatory processes of skeletal muscle, such as sarcomeric contractility, lysosomal and autophagic function, metabolic activity and immune regulation, at transcriptomic and proteomic levels in infantile and adult Pompe disease.

Tissue-Specific Immunoregulation: A Call for Better Understanding of the “Immunostat” in the Context of Cancer

open access: yes, 2018
Checkpoint inhibitor therapy has been a breakthrough in cancer research, but only some patients with cancer derive substantial benefit. Although mechanisms underlying sensitivity and resistance to checkpoint inhibitors are being elucidated, the ...

Therapeutic potential of natural products in cancer immunotherapy: Advances and challenges

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
This review systematically outlines the mechanisms underlying tumour immunotherapy resistance and elucidates the role of natural products in enhancing therapeutic efficacy as immunomodulatory adjuvants. Abstract Immunotherapy has emerged as a clinically pivotal approach in cancer treatment, but its application remains limited to a small subset of ...

Inhibition of the MER tyrosine kinase ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis by suppressing macrophage M2 polarisation and osteopontin signalling

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose The MER proto‐oncogene tyrosine kinase (MERTK) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis (PF), and MERTK inhibition has been shown to ameliorate PF. However, the mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we have investigated how MERTK inhibition attenuates bleomycin (BLM)‐induced PF in mice and to elucidate the ...

Emerging Roles of PSTPIP2 in Autoimmunity: From Mechanism to Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
PSTPIP2 acts as a key brake on myeloid inflammation by suppressing IL‐1β‐driven signalling, macrophage dysregulation and inflammation‐associated bone remodelling. Its emerging roles in CRMO/CMO, rheumatoid arthritis, SAPHO syndrome and bullous pemphigoid support its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target.

Substance P Potentiates TGF-1 Production in Lung Epithelial Cell Lines

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2009
Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) is one of the most important cytokines implicated in growth, differentiation, repair and also the pathogenesis of the lung fibrosis by its stimulatory effect on extracellular matrix deposition. Pulmonary epithelial

Prevalence of anti-lymphocyte IgM autoantibodies driving complement activation in COVID-19 patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionCOVID-19 patients can develop autoantibodies against a variety of secreted and membrane proteins, including some expressed on lymphocytes. However, it is unclear what proportion of patients might develop anti-lymphocyte antibodies (ALAb) and ...

The Interactions Between Acetylcholine and T‐Cells and Their Role in the Immune System: A Scoping Review

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Activated T‐cells instigate signalling events leading to the activation of transcription factors, which in turn, act on the nucleus to produce cytokines. We postulate that c‐fos is one of these transcription factors which upregulates the choline acetyltransferase gene responsible for synthesising acetylcholine (ACh).

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.
