Analysis of BAC end sequences of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) using in silico approaches (W046) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tilapias are the second most important fish group in aquaculture and a primary source of animal protein for millions of people in developing countries. Over the past years a great effort has been done to increase the genomic tools in tilapia by obtaining

Genome-driven evolutionary game theory helps understand the rise of metabolic interdependencies in microbial communities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Metabolite exchanges in microbial communities give rise to ecological interactions that govern ecosystem diversity and stability. It is unclear, however, how the rise of these interactions varies across metabolites and organisms.

Anchorage‐independent and faster growth in clonal population from UV‐irradiated NER‐deficient cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UV‐irradiated cells expressing a DDB2 mutant protein unable to interact with PCNA (DDB2PCNA‐) form clones able to grow without anchorage. Different experimental approaches reveal heterogeneity in cell cycle regulation and drug response within these clones, emphasizing the crucial role of the DDB2‐PCNA interaction in preventing cellular transformation ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Analysis of damaging non-synonymous SNPs in GPx1 gene associated with the progression of diverse cancers through a comprehensive in silico approach

open access: yesScientific Reports
Glutathione Peroxidase 1 (GPx1) gene has been reported for its role in cellular redox homeostasis, and the dysregulation of its expression is linked with the progression of diverse cancers. Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism (nsSNPs) have been

5-Hydroxy-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-8,8-dimethyl-6- (3-methylbut-2-enyl)pyrano[2,3-h]chromen-4-one [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Natural and semi-synthetic compounds are being studied as novel phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension, and lower urinary symptoms.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Characterizing the Retinoblastoma 1 Locus: a plethora of putative elements for Rb1 regulation by in silico analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2014
Limited understanding of the Rb1 locus hinders genetic and epigenetic analyses of Retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer of the nervous systems. In this study, we used in silico tools to investigate and review putative genetic and epigenetic elements of the ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
